Four grain, pot distilled, aged in #2 char (toasted) barrels. Even more strange is they use a dark roast malted barley; usually bourbon distillers use malted barley with as much diastatic power as possible so they can use a fairly minimal proportion in the mashbill. Dark roasting a malted barley significantly cuts down on its diastatic power, so they must be using a much larger proportion of it (if we assume they want to convert all the starches to fermentable sugars). While I'm sort of sure these companies are sincere in what they're offering, most seem half-ass at best. If I were to ever be stupid enough to try my hand at bringing a whiskey to market, I'd at least try to make it legitimate. Age it and distill it properly people! I tend to think that most are submitted by small companies that just don't know any better and at the end of the day I find it more amusing than anything. It helps that in actuality I don't have quite the level of enthusiasm that I did a few years back. I also think that despite the errant label here and there that as things have progressed the exceptions stand out more because there are less and less of them. This place has been in business for a while though, this is far from their first label application. Not sure how they stay in business though, as the stuff I have tasted from them is just absolute drain-pour crap. Although who knows, maybe they have improved, and this is the first label I have seen from them labeled as 4 years.

I have unfortunately missed several opportunities to try their products at some local tastings. I am also really curious. One encouraging sign is that their head distiller, Alan Bishop, is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. He has a blog called The Alchemist's Cabinet that has some really deep dives on Indiana distilling history and the science of distillation.

CBSpiceTree
So is there a searchable database of these where you can pull up random labels? I found the ttp cola registry but all the forms there don’t appear to have the images attached. I like to make samples/minis and using these often times turns out a lot better than the boring label maker.
