There is so much to say about this label, as a positive it lists mashbills nice, as a negative its certainly mystery whiskey, but hey it's vegan....

https://www.ttbonline.gov/colasonline/viewColaDetails.do?action=publicFormDisplay&ttbid=20092001000440

I get that these will look different once the labels are on a bottle but whoever reviewed these at the TTB has better eyes than me

https://www.ttbonline.gov/colasonline/viewColaDetails.do?action=publicFormDisplay&ttbid=20094001000555

Despite the origin clearly being stated on the back I still take issue with the front of this label which could easily be read as Texas Straight Bourbon

The OO 114, BF 150th anniversary, and EB 99 - I would consider buying.

Sticker shock is a deal breaker.  Something tells me the BF is meant to go directly into the store's glass case, but I could be wrong.

Certainly looks like a label intended for a fancy bottle

Kind of an odd duck there.  Four grain, pot distilled, aged in #2 char (toasted) barrels.  Even more strange is they use a dark roast malted barley; usually bourbon distillers use malted barley with as much diastatic power as possible so they can use a fairly minimal proportion in the mashbill.  Dark roasting a malted barley significantly cuts down on its diastatic power, so they must be using a much larger proportion of it (if we assume they want to convert all the starches to fermentable sugars).

The alternative is they are adding enzymes which lots of distilleries tend to do for consistency anyway.

Wow, let's hope their product is better than their marketing prowess (doubtful, lol)

I really do appreciate your doing these posts Kevin, but does it ever get discouraging? While I'm sort of sure these companies are sincere in what they're offering, most seem half-ass at best. If I were to ever be stupid enough to try my hand at bringing a whiskey to market, I'd at least try to make it legitimate. Age it and distill it properly people!

I tend to think that most are submitted by small companies that just don't know any better and at the end of the day I find it more amusing than anything. It helps that in actuality I don't have quite the level of enthusiasm that I did a few years back. I also think that despite the errant label here and there that as things have progressed the exceptions stand out more because there are less and less of them.

This place has been in business for a while though, this is far from their first label application. Not sure how they stay in business though, as the stuff I have tasted from them is just absolute drain-pour crap. Although who knows, maybe they have improved, and this is the first label I have seen from them labeled as 4 years.

Spirits Of French Lick sounds interesting, but I have never seen one of their products in a store.  I give anyone some credit that does a bottled in bond.  French Lick is maybe two hours drive South from where I live.

I have unfortunately missed several opportunities to try their products at some local tastings. I am also really curious. One encouraging sign is that their head distiller, Alan Bishop, is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. He has a blog called The Alchemist's Cabinet that has some really deep dives on Indiana distilling history and the science of distillation.

Their products are available at Seelbachs.com.  I bought a bottle of the Four Grain barrel proof private pick but haven't opened it yet.  Got to kill a few nearly empty bottles first.

If the price is reasonable, I can see a huge interest.  While some find it boring, I actually like standard MM.  Of course, MMCS and MM46PS can be stellar depending on the batch or stave selection.

So is there a searchable database of these where you can pull up random labels?

I found the ttp cola registry but all the forms there don’t appear to have the images attached.

I like to make samples/minis and using these often times turns out a lot better than the boring label maker.

I don’t know about a searchable data base, but perhaps checking your distiller of interest to see if they have something?  I’m pretty sure BT has some things on their brands.
