It's gone.

Now that’s funny.   And well said.

I said this once in a thread a while back. So, who’s gonna start the pool?

As for what I’m pouring..... After lunch it will be the last couple of pours from the remnants of my hastily thrown together 2019 Weller Blend. Yeasterday, I delivered a nice sample of it to someone as a thank you, so there ain’t much left. ;)

The Big Level/OF1897 combo was just okay.  Combining a $55 bottle of Big Level and a $50 bottle of OF1897 to get close to a $20 bottle of EW is not an ideal solution.  But I think I've hit on something.   The State Store giveth even as it takes away.   They've got Knob Creek rye on sale for just about 30 bucks,   and whoa- this stuff works some magic!    A 50/50 blend with the Big Level creates a nifty four-grain tipple,   all components at 100 proof,  with the mouthfeel and taste of a premium whiskey.    The caulkiness is replaced with a dry spice;  the instant comp seems to me to be Yellowstone.

Good point, $55 + $50 may equal $20 using today's new math, but a wise investment it does not particularly make...  I poured a little SABL today to remind me how bad a poorly considered purchase can taste, and with a faint hope that several months of an opened bottle may have released the evil genie and magically improved things (it didn't...).  I rquickly reached for an open bottle of Baby Saz to add in (roughly 50/50) - helped a little, but the SABL is still quite dominant.  Oh well, got plenty other bottles to play around with.

Had a first pour from my infinity bottle. The nose was to die for but the palate just seems confused. Just too much going on. Could be my mind overruling my taste buds but I can almost taste each individual bourbon in it. Maybe it just needs more time to mingle? Was fascinated by the concept but unless I can balance it somehow I doubt I’ll continue it.

I did one years ago, and quit for the same reason.  I poured the last dribblings of each killed bottle into it, and really did enjoy cataloguing them on paper, but the end result was nothing of merit.  My problem was not so much that the individual bourbons were popping up here and there, rather the individual flavors just imploded into a black mess like when mixing all the different paint colors on a palette.

I’m enjoying a pour of 2016 Stagg with a few drops of water. Nice way to relax in front of the fireplace on a Sunday evening. Yeah it’s hot. But you also get those intense flavors chewing on this stuff that are hard to replace

I wouldn’t worry to much about the costs as they are sunken costs. It’s better to play around with your $50+ bottle with other purchased bottles than it is to buy another $20 bottle. At least from a finical perspective.

The last of this OWA is a celebratory pour. We put our house on the market Thursday afternoon and were under contract at 10:30 today. Here's to thinking my shelving of bourbons and ryes helped secure the deal!

Did you check the fill levels of the bottles after the showing?  :)

Enjoying some dusty OGD 86.  Not pure ND (it was an ND UPC in a family size bowling ball, but dated 1993 - so I figure it includes some ND whiskey and some Beam whiskey).  Regardless of origin, tasty stuff for only 86 proof.

Bussiness trip. The samples and 3 in the middle came from home. The KC rye is a 6 year. The initial taste was a little hot but a lot of flavor was there too. I think a little air time and possibly some water will make it a really delicious pour.

That is excellent advice,  @HoustonNit, except that it's more fun to try to concoct a blend!     A 50/50 blend of Big Level and Knob Creek Rye,  which both share the same 100 proof,  yields a four-grain whiskey that, by my calculation, is 11% wheat,  26% rye,  8% barley and about 55% corn.    Knob Level is good stuff!

I agree with what your saying 100%. I’m just saying I wouldn’t worry about wasting your $50 Big Level to replicate a $20 blend as you’ve already spent those $50.
