Well, I bit the bullet this afternoon! I picked this OF1920 up that I’d been eye-balling multiple times per week over the past few months now with a KCSmB 100 also. I gave $59.99 for the OF1920 at the ABC, I haven’t found any cheaper here hence my procrastination.  :(

$60 is not bad at all.  I paid $62 each in their gift shop when it was really hard to find.

Pretty much the going rate here, can be found fairly easily and most ABC’s have in stock.. I think other SB’ers have commented buying/seeing for less.. I’ve seen as high as $85+ plus Uncle Sam’s end.

Really excited to learn a store one town over had done a few 4RSiB picks. Never seen anything other than the standard offerings in the wild before now. I grabbed one of both that they had: an OESV 10yr 9mo at 50.8% and OBSF 8yr 9mo at 58.1%. Can’t wait to crack these open for a SBS!

Yesterday’s buys I already posted about in the winter thread. I tried to take a picture like JMFH. My skills aren’t there yet obviously.

Went to dinner tonight where I got to taste 4 of the Van Winkle expressions...2018 10, 12, 20, and 23. They also had one bottle of each in a lottery to purchase. There were only 24 people so odds were good. I walked out with the ORVW and a regular BT that I got $10 off for attending. The food was amazing and worth the price of admission alone. I've always liked the 10 year and the 12 has been low on my list but I thought the 12 was really good and slightly better this time. The 20 seemed off on the finish. Some people described it as it tasted like a drop of vanilla extract was added. Had a weird finish. The 23 was really outstanding and was the winner of the night. Also had 3 different cocktails with the courses so I'm super stuffed.

Coming from a die-hard bourbon guy, you get A+’s for the steak and asparagus presentation alone.. Well done! Errrr.. should I say medium rare! ;)

Well..I didn't make it..but yeah it was awesome. Dry aged ribeye. Medium rare. Had to be at least 16 oz. Even the balsamic sauce and the miso bearnaise was great. I'm still full and have half a steak for tomorrow. I made the mistake of going to a bbq earlier in the day.

OMG! Top grade ribeye cooked medium rare with a side of asparagus to boot! Ohhh.. paired with top notch swig as well.. Maybe the makings of a “last meal”.. Lol. Again, worthy of top marks!

Well, that's apples versus oranges there.  The 12yr store pick is surely a hand-picked single barrel and you're comparing it to a relatively mass produced batched product (let's say "medium batch").  Not a fair comparison to base your judgement on.

Myself, I didn't detect much difference between the latest version of the red letter "12" label vs the same era back label age stated (ca. 2015 I guess?).   But then again I've never assumed that the product inside the bottle changes just because the packaging changes (there is no dependency there).

The problem with the NAS product is, yeah in 2016ish the early batches of NAS were a minimum 8 years (with plenty of 12 yr blended in) as they made the transition, but what about now in 2019? How much older juice is in there now? (the answer is "who knows"). The last NAS I bought a few months ago is a shadow of the old EC12, so much that I don't consider it the same product.

I wasnt necessarily comparing a new store pic to the older bottling, tho its still all EC. I do feel the new standard nas EC is a different bourbon than the old 12s, tho still good. Even tho those old big red 12s are gone, there are plenty of store pix now which are typically very good.

I still feel the rear-age-stated bottles were inferior. I could taste a difference with my first bottle, & each one after. Maybe its just me, tho I didnt assume it would be different because of a small label change. I would not be surprised if they were running low on 12 barrels, & harvesting whatever they had to keep up tho lesser quality, & moved the age to the back in prep of loosing the age. No proof of this, & HH actually denied loosing the age when questioned about it at the time.

Picked up a bottle of CEHT small batch to go wait with the other backup bottles.  Now my stash cabinet is completely full, and I need to start finishing some of the opened ones before I purchase any more.
