I'd been such a good boy for soooo long at not buying bourbon just because the price was great, but today I caved and bought a RR10yr for $21.99. I just couldn't stop myself........

Holy schnicks... I had the same conversation with myself today and the RR10yr was 29.99!  YOU DID THE RIGHT THING.

Barrel 1319 and 1376. Have the 1319 open now (liking it way to much to make it last) and will probably open the 1376 at the tail end, just so I can do a SBS.  Wasn't on the mid-June Skype, but would appreciate any insight you could provide on these two.

As always, thanks for all you do.

@Bret Bret, yep, I've got notes from those barrels from the June 12th Skype conference. Those would have been from lot 20-E-06 (distilled May 20, 2016), so they would have just turned 13 years old. Oddly enough I don't have the proof of #1319 written down in my notes. Flavor and aroma-wise, I have written down "butterscotch, candied orange peel, estery/fruity, with some cinnamon."

I have a bunch of stars written next to #1376, as I do when I really like a barrel. I have a proof of 107.16 in my notes, plus "creme brulee and maple syrup, and very soft and round on the palate."

Both barrels are distilled with what is known as an MGP "Q" yeast profile, which has a little more esters and fruity notes, as well as fusels, as compared to the "V" yeast profile.

I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any more questions about them. Hope you enjoy!

Cheers,

Nancy

What did you trade away for it?

Blanton's Original, Henry McKenna 10 Year, and Eagle Rare.

I have 4+ each of all three of those, so I had no problem swapping some extras to have a bottle of Blantons, gold, and sftb.

Wow, Thank you so much. Your the best.  I'll have to see if I can snag another 1376 barrel if I can.  Cheers.

My pleasure @Bret Bret! According to my system of "stars" next to barrel numbers in my notes, it would mean that I liked #1376 better than #1319. Since I took those notes in June, I don't know exactly what was on my mind, but that's most likely what I was thinking. I probably found #1319 a little too estery as compared to #1376. At any rate, that's just my tastebuds. Someone else might prefer that barrel.

Hope you can snag another #1376!

Cheers,

Nancy

A tip led me to a Stagg Jr. Batch 12 today.

I recognize that view. I would have loved to been able to get one, but my nephews birthday party prevented me from doing any hunting on saturday.

Best value out there and a fine everyday drinker to have on hand, Heaven Hill 6 year old (green label)  They don’t advertise for it at all, it’s not even listed on their website!  This is one of my favorites that I hope stays around for a long time and no one finds out about what a steal it is.  I tried to put a picture in here but the 2mb limit got me.

It was a beautiful day in the Bluegrass.  Far to nice to spend at work.  A great day of “hunting” and enjoying the fall colors.

Not all in one day, but a good week.  Looks like no Pappy or BTAC for me this year since bourbon budget for the rest of the year is BLOWN!  ?

Picked up my second bottle of Little Book, Chapter 3.     The first bottle is going fast;   last night I did a comparo between it and Noah's Mill.   Two superior bourbon blends,  showcasing traditional flavors,  long aging and perfect balance.

Very nice week!  Looking forward to see how you like the Baker's 13, as I have not seen that one near me yet.

These L&K picks also put a hit on the bourbon budget (most were multiples for vatting, too!):

I saw a bottle of the PHC Rye on Friday but passed at $299.99.  Curious as to what you had to pay for yours.

Grabbed another J. Magnus single 1376 barrel. Was thinking, 1 to open, 1 for the bunker.  But now...2 to open!
