What Bourbon Did You Pass On Today (Winter 2019)

Passed on a bunch of overpriced stuff recently.  That and I have waaaaaay to many bottles (at least that's what my wife tells me).

Yesterday i was specifically after one bottle.. looked up and there were tons of  WSR, Hancocks, OWA, Blantons, ER, Stagg jrs BTs sitting on the bar at MSRP.. a beautiful site but had to pass. Wish I couldve stocked up on Blantons that I can never find anymore.

Just curious. As you all get a round more than I do. 

 

Has anyone tried Oak and Eden? I just saw a post on it and it "sounds" interesting. I'm heading to the Smoky Mountains in a couple days and it canoe purchased south of here, in Cincinnati and Lexington. Thought about stopping to get  a bottle.

This may be a great whiskey, but if it were me, I’d be on the lookout for something more “tried and true”. There are a number of good stores on the route you will be traveling. I’m pretty sure at least one or two of those stores will have something a lot more desirable and interesting than Oak And Eden. This is just my opinion mind you. YMMV

Passed on Maker's RC6 at retail. Was tempted, but find it hard to buy into their finishing program.

I passed on a RC6 at $69 and ECBP at $89.  Did grab a ER 1.75 for $69, though...

You didn't miss too much, IMO.  I pulled the trigger on this and it's not bad but not great either so it'll be a one and done.  There's too many other bourbons I'd rather buy for $60.

Passed on a Corner Creek 10 year. I missed this one getting an age statement. $60 seemed pretty steep for 10 years and 88 proof. I guess it's good to see an age statement being added, but it's at least $15 too much for those specs in my book given that I have no where it's sourced from.

Agreed. I couldn’t notice a difference in it or other MM offerings.

Little Book 2018/batch 2 for $99 and a handful of Booker's from 2016 and 2017. If I were a Beam guy I would probably have jumped. Got a old style bottle of KY Spirit (Austin Nichols) instead.

I was lucky to get LB2 for 75. IMO worth $100 in the current market.

Agreed. This CAN be good, but only if you get a honey barrel. I’ve had some that were bad - before it won whiskey of the year, so I don’t search it out and have passed since it’s increased in price. No reason a standard single barrel release with that much variation from bottle to bottle should be that hard to find. I’ll take Evan Williams single barrel for less than $30 all day over this.

I passed on MM @ $22.49, and Basil Hayden @ $28.99 yesterday. Great prices I know, and I was very tempted, but .......

I passed on a number of LEs during the Holiday rush. It was good to get together with friends recently that brought some of those missed highlights to sample. Sometimes it comes back around! Patience grasshopper.

Weekly shopping day today. Long story short, I passed on everything. However, while I was at one store, I looked down one aisle and had to do a double take. Uhh, make that a triple take. There coming towards me down the aisle was Smokinjoe’s doppleganger. Complete with baseball hat.  I mean this guy could have passed for Joes twin. He saw me looking at him and said hello. I said hi, and apologized for staring at him and told him that he looked exactly like a friend I have in Georgia. He grinned and said, “Well, I hear we all have a twin somewhere. I guess mine’s in Georgia. Nice chatting with you. Have a good day.”

I pass on everything at this local store because they’re ridiculously overpriced.  Inquired on an Old Fitz 13 and 15yr behind the counter.    Guy told me $300 and $1100.   I said wow that’s a big jump for 2 extra years in the barrel. I hate giving them business but for some reason they are the cheapest with RR10 in town.
