It's odd that I see it at my local Safeway more often than in any liquor stores I frequent. And they had Old Elk for $57. Maybe I should post this in the "signs that the boom has peaked" thread... For whatever reason, Safeway has had a regular restocking of Blanton’s through the years. Never lasts very long, though. The Michters 10 year bourbons and ryes that I have bunkered also came from Safeway locations. Well, except for 1 bottle that I got at a Costco years ago. Even after it became allocated, a couple local Meijer stores would still receive a few bottles occasionally. They would put them out randomly. They eventually removed the shelf tag. I have heard of a few random sightings but have not seen any for a few years now. Apparently, the distributor must have released some to retail as both Costco and Meijer had some this week. The liquor managers at both stores told me they have received more recently than normal but they never know when it will show up. I know another liquor manager who orders it every week and rarely receives a bottle. When he does, the expectation is it goes to employees of the distributor. I saw a Woodford Reserve Batch Proof for $131.99 at a grocery store. We still aren't allowed to go into liquor stores.

Most people who try it blind don’t believe it’s Jack. that is a great price on it!

JDSBBP is absolutely the best whiskey to come out of Lynchburg (or anywhere in TN; unless you love Flintstone vitamins) in a very long time... maybe ever. And that price is fantastic. Go back and grab up at least two. Open one up and see if it isn't worth the $$... and maybe if this particular barrel is even stellar... I have yet to find much variability in this one; but being a single barrel offering there's always that possibility.

I'll keep the yes train going. I had a store pick of this that absolutely blew my mind and was one of my top pours of that year. I've crowed about it on here several times. Really opened my eyes that JD can make fabulous whiskey and stressed the importance of loading up when you find a special barrel.
Ace1943
I am also on board with JDSBBP. It is the only Tennessee whiskey I ever drink. It's really quite good!
PaulO
Not really wanting to start an argument, but JD meets all the TTB requirements to be labeled as Bourbon. The company chooses not to put "Bourbon" on the label because of their marketing.

JCwhammie
Costco had Basil Hayden 10 yr rye for $57.99. If I could get a 90 proof version I might bite at that price

BigSkyDrams
Was offered a Blood Oath Pact #6 at $121.95, and was an easy pass. I know age isn't everything, but given it could only carry a 7 year age statement due to the youngest component, that's a tough sell at that price for me. Come to think of it, I don't think I've had any Lux Row offerings before with maybe the exception of the base Ezra Brooks several years ago, so I don't know the distillery's profile at all really. May be that I missed out on something great there, but I'll take my chances in putting that $120 towards 2-3 other bottles I know I'll really enjoy rather than risk paying that much for something I don't love. Nevertheless, makes me realize I should keep my eye out for some of their other bottles just to broaden my horizons.

Since, for the moment, the Lux Row distillery (built by Luxco) still hasn't produced anything for bottling yet to my knowledge (they are just now reaching about 2 years since they started distilling) and are still bottling sourced whiskey I would be hard pressed to say they had a recognizable distillery profile yet.

Ah, see I didn't even know that. So all of their brands are sourced? As mentioned, I haven't even had a bottle to scrutinize the label on, so that's news to me. Thanks. Also takes my regrets from passing on the BO#6 from bare-minimum to non-existent. EDIT to add: I've been bombarded with ads/press releases/etc. about the RY10 SiB winning accolades and awards. Is it known where that is sourced from? Edited May 15, 2020 by BigSkyDrams

In theory they will replace their sourced whiskey with heir own distillate at some point in the future but that point is well off and I am not sure the new distillery can make enough to match what they are bottling now as it is. Even if they use younger whiskey from their own still to fill some of those brands it is likely to still take awhile.

Yes, all of their brands are still sourced currently. Heavy speculation that the RY10 SiB has been Heaven Hill juice, although I don’t know if that has been officially confirmed. RY10 has also seemed to be fairly inconsistent, some honey barrels, some underwhelming. But, a good value especially if you luck into one of the better barrels
