I'm actually a big fan of them too. They are quality whiskies which in the end is what matters the most.

I agree.  Very good whiskies across the board.  I also unabashedly admit that the package/label design/bottle shape/etc, of a whiskey can and will enhance my enjoyment of it, and EHT has these in spades.

I tried PK, but evidently when I transferred everything from my old computer to my new one, a few files were lost. ^_^

I went to a place to grab some dinner on a road trip last night, and at first glance they had a very large bar setup. But I sat at the bar, and immediately realized that the whole bar was stocked with local craft liquor that they seemed awfully proud of. Would’ve loved a pour but the only thing I even remotely considered trying was Stoll & Wolfe white dog. Alas, as much as I like what they’re doing and will be interested in trying properly aged whiskey from them, I’m just not a white dog guy. Beer it was

My favorite part of this post is that you were actually allowed to sit at a bar.

I bet they have some epic flights. ?

Good call on the beer.

My wife and I love to travel to the upper portions of the lower Michigan.  We stopped it at the satellite tasting room for Traverse City Bourbon located in downtown Traverse City.  We had to pay $5 for a tasting glass which I didn't use but we could taste a flight of 3 of their products.  I chose the Traverse City Bourbon, Rye and something flavored.  I tasted each but refused to finish any.  The bartender asked me if I would like to purchase a bottle.  I told her yes but none of their stuff.

I still see this stuff in Meijer and Big Red and wonder how many repeat buyers they have.

On that trip, we ended up going to several wineries and a microbrewery which rescued our taste buds.  That was also the same trip where the bartender at the hotel gave me two separate pours of FRSiB for $9 each with each pour being half of a shot glass neat.  She got a really good tip.  Fortunately, my wife was with me so I found my way back to my room.

I have been passing on a lot of bourbon lately.  I just can't find anything that piques my interest, either because several favorites have become harder to find or special bottles are significantly overpriced.  To be honest, I am looking for volume discounts, typically 6 bottles or more, but similar to the grocery stores where I have to go to one store for eggs and another for baking supplies, I can't find 6 diverse bottles of interest at the same store.  Yes, I could buy 6 bottles of WT101 which I would enjoy but I like a little diversity.

When several members here with a lot of posts concur a craft product is good - I'll consider it.

Mostly it goes as posted above.  I see this stuff in stores too and wonder, eventually won't the store get stuck with inventory no one wants.  Nowadays it seems retailers have a lot of it.

First post, hello all. I’ve been reading the site regularly for about 3 years so while I’m a stranger to all, it’s a pleasure to finally join the ongoing conversations about this fantastic hobby.

To that end I was browsing my local liquor store today and saw KC15 on the shelf at $109.99. I knew it was coming courtesy of the TTB thread but info online is scant and at the price ($20 over MSRP, I believe, and significantly higher than the recent 15 year KC single barrels that have been on the market) it was a relatively easy pass. Anyone else seen these in stores yet? Thoughts on the pricing?

Welcome to the club.

Enjoy the wealth of knowledge, information, and shenanigans here.

Yes, it was $90-100 and sold out super quick.

I basically ignored it, because there’s still 14y+ store picks in town for about half that amount and those are 120p.

I'd have done the same and not for budget reasons.  I've passed on it at $49.99 + tax a few times.

Passed on HMcK10 for $50.  Worse yet, this was in a store that doesn't gouge on even the real LEs.  Just 2yrs ago, I was paying $32 for HMcK10. I realize The Ascot Effect, but this price is beyond the Taterville norm. I'm guessing the distributor has decided to stick it to the Oklahoma consumer.

I am a longtime fan of HMcK10, (have way too many in the bunker to prove it,) but $50 is so easy to walk away laughing.  For me $50 opens up many Bourbon selections that  are vastly superior to the notoriously inconsistent Henry McKenna 10yr.

Rant over. ?

Cheers

I passed on several standard bourbons while out shopping today. What was noteworthy is that I found some of the standard bourbons that had recently disappeared have now reappeared with a price increase. I noticed this in a few stores on things like KC, EC and FR.

I thought about this too. The one good thing is once FWGS has something in stock they never go out. Will wait and see.

Welcome.  Didn't see you under the "New to SB" topic.  But, welcome anyway.  My standard advice is - use "Search" a lot, spend some time browsing the BOTM (Bottle of the Month) threads, the History topics, the Tasting topics, and the General Bourbon Discussion.  and, if you can't find an answer, ASK.  We are here to serve.;)

And, NO, I haven't seen KC15 even online at the sites locally I visit a lot, but then I haven't been outside my house for three months.  Do you have any idea what I SMELL like?  Reminds me of Ranger School.  Our fatigues stood up by themselves.:D

IOW, I can live with me.B)

I think $50 is the new msrp.  That's what K&L sells it for and they are, thankfully, a non-gouging retailer.  And when it shows up on their web site, it sells out instantly.  Crazy....

Seemingly unlike most people the MK17 is my favorite of the series, but that price is offensive for a bottle that’s been sitting on the shelf for a few years at $50 less
