jnewberg
Passed on a Blantons mainly because I already had the “T”... Grabbed my beer and went to the counter... Guy went to the same shelf and was so happy to see the Blantons at state minimum... Said it was his first, glad I passed.

Just 2yrs ago, I was paying $32 for HMcK10. I realize The Ascot Effect, but this price is beyond the Taterville norm. I'm guessing the distributor has decided to stick it to the Oklahoma consumer. I am a longtime fan of HMcK10, (have way too many in the bunker to prove it,) but $50 is so easy to walk away laughing. For me $50 opens up many Bourbon selections that are vastly superior to the notoriously inconsistent Henry McKenna 10yr. Rant over. Cheers Just now, fosmith said: I think $50 is the new msrp. That's what K&L sells it for and they are, thankfully, a non-gouging retailer. And when it shows up on their web site, it sells out instantly. Crazy.... To think I was getting this for $26 five years ago. Yeah, $50 would be hard to swallow for sure.

PaulO
I would have passed too. I'm fairly certain it's sourced. You can probably find the same juice under the distiller's own label for less mark up, cut out the middle man.

parksmart
While dropping off a package for FedEx at the authorized shipping store the next neighborhood down from me, I noticed the small grocery store across the street actually offered liquor. I’ve driven by this place literally thousands of times thinking they only offer beer & wine, so had never stepped foot inside. I walk in, and immediately notice a lot of allocated bottles behind the counter. CEHT Amaranth, EC 18, Michters 10, Weller 12, ETL, etc. No price tags on them is never a good sign. I walked down the short aisle where they had liquor on the shelves, and knew that it was highly unlikely I’d buy anything. CEHT SmB for $79.99. Blanton’s for $99.99. Decided to ask what the ETL was priced at. Clerk grabs the bottle, and scans the bar code. $399.99 plus tax.

Richdel
Not a hard pass, but more like a let me go away for a minute and think about it. I walked into one of my locals (hadn't been there for 2-3 weeks), and there shelves were full of ECBP B520, for $81 OTD. But right next to it, and it wasn't there several weeks ago when I last visited, there were 2 bottles of A119 for $81. Since I already own B520, and have been able to find it at 3-4 stores for ~$65, that was an easy decision, NO. But, not sure I will find a bottle of A119 in the wild again. For a mere 20% markup, I thought long and hard before walking away from the 2 bottles. IF I go back for them and they are gone, then the bourbon gods were telling me something.
PaulO
Yesterday I went to a store in Indianapolis that has always had the most diverse inventory. It had been a while, maybe a year. Among other things, they have tons of craft whiskey. It looks like the same stuff from a year ago. Maybe no one's buying it. Luckily, I did find some other items interesting to me.

If they wanted $400 for the ETL, they had to be asking more than 4 figures for the Amaranth?? did you check by chance?

I didn’t bother. If it wasn’t $1K+, then it probably was darn close. This is the second store I’ve come across recently where it seems the owner just likes to keep his bourbon collection there, and will only let go of a bottle if someone is willing to pay an egregious amount for it....... Not_That_Fancy
Recently saw the same prices in Destin Fl. A bottle RVW 10 at $1299, GTS 2019 $799, and ER at $99.99. There were a few other bottles behind the counter but I stopped asking. The mid 20’s girl just went on and on about how rare they were. I laughed and left. PowderKeg
Hard pass on a Weller CYPB (or whatever the white label one is) for something that was north of $400 - I don't recall exactly as I mostly remember 3 digits with a "4" on the far left. I am effectively done with all things Weller, shoot pretty much everything BT-sourced - between the massive gouging that so many crooks resort to, or the the "build a relationship by spending thousands at one gouging shop to maybe be graced with an offer above MSRP" BS, and BT's blatant hypocrisy of claiming to dislike the gouging while releasing more new labels of whatever gouged brand instead of supplying more (or better yet cutting off distributors that encourage the gouging), well simply screw BT. I might pick up one of the Wellers, or RHF, or ETL, or EHT, or Blanton's if I stumble on one at MSRP, but I'm done giving them any purposeful thought or look while surfing. Way too many other good brands and sources out there to waste time and money on BT. Rant off, descending from the soap box....

gurgalunas
Old Tub showed up yesterday. BiB Beam. Nothing sounded exciting about it other than it was a throwback brand, and since I dont do well with Beam Funk, I passed. $20.
0895
It took every ounce of restraint. I even had one in my cart for a bit. I left 3 slam dunk MMCS bottles on the shelf for $33 each. I also like the old MMCS bottle better.
