This is the first Blanton's bottle that I've opened that seems way off the profile. Hot with a bitter oakiness.

Well that stinks.

Personally I feel like Blanton's has been releasing a lot of "meh" barrels for about the past year.

Sign of the times I suppose.

Guess I'm a Blanton's snob - only buy L&K picks now (and Gold & STFB whenever I can).  What's a person to do???😋

Opened a ET BiB I picked up yesterday; nothing too complex or special, but an interestingly different profile. Lots of burnt sugars and something like raisins. Seems like a good entry in the EWBiB and VOB100 price range.

If you came to the Gazebo a couple of years ago, you could have had Blanton's Gold - at least that's what SWMBO told me I walked around pouring until it was all gone.  It was one of the bottles we brought back from our trip to Bermuda earlier in the week.  🥳

Every year for the past several years we would see Dennis DeYoung formerly of Styx on her birthday at Ruver City Casino.  Styx is her favorite band and was her first concert back in '77. So we played one of the "DdY and the Music of Styx" concerts on YouTube. Say what you want about him but that guy can still sing his ass off in his 70s.

I set it up with printed tickets, seat numbers, and even a red velvet rope to get to the "vip seating section". Then got the end of the Blues game afterward so it was a win-win.

Fantastic! I never saw them in their prime because I was a tad too young but I did see them in the mid 90's - at an outdoor amphitheater venue in Cincinnati - and boy did they bring it. An absolute blast.

Very Nice!! Back in '76...Rush, Styx, and Blue Oyster Cult was my first concert. And the ticket price was $5.50...those were the days!!

Saw Styx in 78 for the Grand Illusion tour and the new album Pieces of 8 was about to come out, so they did both and put on an incredible light show. Met a few of the local lovelies & the night is forever embedded in my brain...

And Happy Belated, Mrs C...

I have seen him 2x in the last 5 years or so, and he can still bring it!   Have also seen Styx minus DDY and just not the same with out him!   Well done on your birthday concert series!

Frank, if you don't mind me asking, what does Blanton's Gold usually run in Bermuda?

I'm so old that TW4, which in 1972 changed their name to Styx, gave a concert at my High School on the South Side of Chicago. Glad you guys enjoy them, they always were very talented.

In keeping up with thread drift,  (🙄) Chicago was, and always has been one of my all time favorite bands. Jazz/rock, what’s not to like?  Anyway, back in the day, (pre 1975) they played at the Indiana State Fair. Yes I did. Although you had to pay extra to actually get into the concert and sit in the bleachers, you could still hear their music more than well enough from just outside the grandstand area. 😉 For $5.00, I  firmly believe I more than got my money’s worth. DISCLAIMER: I can neither confirm nor deny the possibility that one year, me and a couple of my good high school buddies might somehow, just possibly may have walked right in, sat right down, and enjoyed the concert without paying extra. 🙄 What can I say?

$76.99 at Duy Free Shop at the airport.  $97.99 at the liquor store in downtown Hamilton.  At least that what is was 2 years ago, IIRC.   🥳
