After a bad bottle years ago, I never bought another but glad my Dad donated this one to the cause (that cause being . . . my shortage of whiskey? Dunno, but never argue when being gifted fine whiskey!!) Oh man..........I have one or two of those left. I remember back in 2014 or so a liquor store employee telling me that this was one the best overlooked bourbons on the shelf at the time. I only partly believed him. Wish I would have bought in fully and stocked up!

mbroo5880i
Had a couple of pours of ECBP while discussing politics in the Republican Party thread. You guys are such enablers. It's @flahute , @jvd99, and @berto fault! That's my story and I am sticking to it. Besides my wife was watching the This is Us finale. Really? We all know last week was the real finale.

My Dad's MD told him to drink only on Sundays. Dad deadpanned that he does just that and he's already on the 2nd Sunday of November 2052.

fishnbowljoe
I’m living vicariously through those posting here tonight. It’s gonna be another busy day for me tomorrow, so I figured I better be a good boy tonight. I did have a few pours of a very nice bottle of FRSB last night though. This is darn fine bottle. Earthy, fruity, flowery notes on the nose. The taste is nicely fruity. This bottle is different than most FRSB’s I’ve had. The fruity flavors I’ve detected before in FR’s were mostly citrus in nature. What I tasted with this one was a slight hint of tart berry, with mild overtones of brown sugar/cinnamon. The finish was crazy. Nicely warm, and going on and on and on… This is one of the best bottles of FRSB I’ve ever had. Biba! Joe

Also, even though there’s one more week of school left, my grand daughter will be participating in her 8th grade class celebration. (graduation) Should be a fun day. Biba! bayouredd
OK, I opened and poured the newly purchased George Remus. I can see a mood for this but, can't believe how lite; hmmm not very complex. I think I will do a WR, OF86 and this in a SBS, next. The loser doesn't need a repurchase... P.S. In actuality, at 1st taste, I would put it in the category of Brothers Bond Edited May 25, 2022 by bayouredd
GaryT
Not from the freezer, but enjoying some dusty OF 86 dimple to celebrate surviving the first half of the week. I usually don't care for the 86 proof, but forgot what a lovely, creamy, chewy pour this one is. Not sure this bottle is going to last long enough to be moved to a new house

Jazz June
It has been a heck of a day on a number of levels, so I'm taking some of Dr. Russell's medicine. A SBS of 1992 Wild Turkey 101 and 2021 Wild Turkey 101. The cork on the 1992 is not the original. The original broke on its second removal, but fortunately the Turkey 101 cork has not changed much in 25+ years and I had another one ready to go.

fishnbowljoe
Our little bourbon cigar group was gonna get together tonight. Then we were’t. Then we finally decided yes. Very iffy weather.🌪 We had regular pours of BT and KC. I brought a sample of Jefferson’s Ocean to share, and another guy brought a sample of Six & Twenty Carolina Roja Whiskey. It was aged in PX Sherry barrels, and was 80 proof. I gotta say that it was the highlight of the evening. It drank above 80 proof, and the finishing in Sherry Barrels gave it a flavor and texture that was quite nice. We had a good evening even after the tornado warning sirens went off. The good news is that the heavy weather passed north of us. The bad news is that there’s more on the way. Biba! Joe
GeeTen
GTS "Hazmat" 142.8 pf, ECBP 139.8pf, Murray Hill CLub, Thomas Moore Sherry Cask (NH pick)), and I forget the others at Pappy's Place Whiskey Wednesday last night. Sunny, warm breezes, and Trader Joe's baked cheese doodles. GTS was drinking much smoother than I remember with great flavors and nose abounding. ECBP was no slouch either - emminently enjoyable. Lots of laughs with good friends and great bourbon. Made it home ok, too (drank a LOT of water before, during and after)! Ain't that the way it's supposed to be?????

We know old corks can be a problem which is why I have a kitchen drawer full of various sized corks. But what I really want to know is how the 2121 WT101 compared with the 1992. I couple of years ago, I had some NAS Austin Nichols WT101 (probably mid 2000s) at a bar and it was phenomenal. Heads and shoulders above modern Turkey and I'm a big fan of modern Turkey. But that older stuff was really special, IMO.
fosmith
Last night I enjoyed a pour of Rebel Distiller's Collection 113 proof SiB. My immediate impression was, this really reminds me of Larceny Barrel Proof. I guess that shouldn't have been a surprise since I believe they share the same DNA (Heaven Hill distillate). I wish I'd gotten more than the one bottle when I had the chance as it doesn't seem to be available any longer in my area.

Heads and shoulders above modern Turkey and I'm a big fan of modern Turkey. But that older stuff was really special, IMO. The 1992 is quite a bit better, which is not to say that the 2021 is bad. The 1992 is clearly older (this is just after the age statement came off and still glut era obviously), with the oak more integrated and layered with the caramel/vanilla. The 2021 almost had a honey-ness to the fruitier notes making it lighter, with the 1992 having darker and richer fruit notes. The 1992 had some of what I would consider dusty notes, which always makes me think mint/menthol/evergreen, but they were not as dominant as say 1970s era bourbons I have had. The mouth feel and viscosity are superior in the 1992. But honestly, I think you can capture some of these "improvements" (if not the dusty notes) in a more modern Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit, although I must admit I have not bought one recently (my most recent were from the end of the classic fan tail bottle style era). And as usual, I am still left quite impressed with how good the modern Wild Turkey 101 is for a widely available and eminently reasonably priced bourbon. I'm typically drinking bourbons that many would consider well above the Wild Turkey 101, but I never have any complaints about Turkey 101 being in my glass. And yeah I have a big stash of spare corks for just such occasions. I believe older Wild Turkey corks are known to be particularly likely to break.
