Might just have to bunker some of this stuff...little hot neat @ 120 proof but enjoyable...opens up with a little splash of water. But neat gives me even more of that dark fruit/black cherry-ish note I love about 1792 SmB...rather enjoying this one. I'm anxious to see how the current release compares to last year's. My experience last year is like yours, not too impressed at first but it got better and better with some time. Also curious why they have only done one release per year.

It's better to my palate than WTMK 17 and Decades, and better than any RRSiB pick I've ever had. I have personally been disappointed with WB Saffel. When it first came out a couple of years ago, there was quite a bit of hype around the release but it I couldn't find it in NoCal. So, I ordered three bottles online from a NY retailer that ships to CA. Maybe because my expectations were so high, it was a bit of a let down to me. Don't get me wrong, it's good but, to me, it doesn't have that wow factor that I expect if I'm paying the equivalent of $100/bottle. There's a lot of good, complex flavors but I feel that I have to look too hard for them. Last year, I opened the second of my three bottles and had the same experience. It just doesn't excite my palate. And, I love WT101, RB, RR SiB and the one WTKS I had. Bottom line; I would only buy it again if it were $50ish. As a side note, in late 2121, K&L got a big shipment of Saffell and sent out several emails promoting it. Interestingly, it's still sitting on the shelf there with web site showing inventory >12 at all three stores plus the main warehouse. I'm not sure how much that means but desirable bottles usually sell out quickly (sometimes in minutes) at K&L.
JakeySnakes
Purchased a bottle of RR10 (2021 bottling). Planning to open, and have a pour in about 30 min., right after I clean the dinner dishes and get my sons lunch ready for school tomorrow.

One of the larger locals has had the same bottles in the same location on their shelf since it came out. They even ran a $29.99 sale over the holidays one year, which I missed. They are literally becoming dusties.
mbroo5880i
While not quite an impulse buy, since I actually went back to buy it, but I picked up a standard bottle of Yellowstone Small Batch. It is normally $40 to $50 in my area. Meijer had it on sale for $24.99. I will post notes in the drinking thread.

I have a very, very, very small fan club. They know that I've gotten into bourbon in the past few years. Some of them view it as "about time!". When I speak at events, I usually get a bottle or two. Pretty random. When I host events I've gotten up to half a dozen. And I suspect that number'll grow as word gets around. I like bourbon people. The story here: I speak to real estate groups once in awhile. I always mention bourbon. Sometimes they know someone, etc. In this case, they said they had a bourbon guy. So I show up to the meeting, up walks a guy I sort of know and hands me that bottle, with a grin on his face. Group leader says "That's our bourbon guy, you know him?". Yeah, I do. Small world. I do a favor for Ohio Real Estate Investors Association once per year, proceeds go to pay lobbyists to fight idiotic, Commie, anti-landlord laws. In November, at their annual meet up, they have a special session for advanced real estate investors (50 deals in 5 years minimum). They share what's what. A lot of knowledge in that room. Also a lot of alpha testosterone (and some estrogen too). Someone has to herd the cats. That's me. I skipped one year and people were Not Happy. So I've become something of a fixture. Well, we had one guy who had some pretty good deals to share. And wouldn't shut up and let others talk. And then wanted free tax advice from me, right then & there. I told him that his deals were awesome, we learned from him and were happy he shared, but he needed to let others talk. He pushed back and insisted on some "him" time, right then & there. I let him know that this was not the time & place to take up fifty other peoples' valuable time by acting like a landlord and trying to get something for free while everyone twiddled their thumbs instead of hearing what they paid to hear. Boy, was he bent out of shape. He kept going and I had no choice but to shut him down. Later on I pulled him aside. Answered his question privately, bought him a pour. Man, that changed everything. Next day he shows up with a bottle of Makers 46 and cigars, and apologizes that the MM46 was not cask strength. So we ended up OK. Rewind. When I told guy #1 to please let someone else talk, I turned to another guy who'd shared a little, and it was good. Really good. He was quiet and did some of the "I'm just a dumb country boy" schtick. I asked him to share more, because I thought he had things to say that others should hear. And he sure did. He lives about two hours south of Nashville, really, really knows how to network, and does some amazing real estate deals, even by the standards of that room. He was too observant, secretive, and, honestly, modest to have shared without prompting. A bunch people later told me how happy they were that he got to talk. They were taking notes. Fast forward 10 months. Guy #2 was the bourbon guy in Nashville this past Monday. Small world. He plies his connections well with bourbon. Let's just say....the store owners where he lives all have his credit card on file. He wanted me to try something local that he liked, hence the rye. We'll be having a drink Saturday after I present a day-long class. Betcha it's is a good drink, we each learn a bunch, and have fun. And perhaps I can talk him into remembering your truly when it comes to some of those bottles he gets ahold of. Odds are I'll save him far more in taxes than I get in bourbon, but that's OK. I like bourbon people. And real estate investors & entrepreneurs. And gun people. They often overlap.

It looks like Costco is prioritizing new stores for their bourbons. I have mentioned this before, but a month or two ago I called Costco and the only store in the country that had SiB was a newly-opened store in CA, which had all 3 expressions. Looks like they are doing the same again at your store in Verona.
CaptTim
After reading some of the suggestions about Wheated Bourbon I wanted to pickup the Rebel 100 and give it a try. And at $18 price tag it made it an easy purchase. I had gotten an email from the state about a Single Barrel Release and bottle signing going on. With Greg Metze not that it was a big deal. However, I did have a nice conversation with him and even learned a thing or two. ( he wanted to talk fishing with me, I had a Ranger Boat shirt on) I was able to taste all 3 of these releases they brought along. I ended up buying the 7yr Straight Bourbon the least expensive of the 3. The 9 yr was very smooth and full of flavor. And the Wheated Bourbon was good as well, just a bit too much $ for me. I am not good at describing what notes I am tasting. BARREL #2130 - 107.2 PROOF Aged in Warehouse G, Floor 3, Rick 38, Tier 3 Bright flavor with green apple, oak, and vanilla notes Old Elk 7yr Straight Bourbon, Old Elk 7yr Wheated Bourbon, and Old Elk 9yr Wheated Whiskey Edited September 14, 2022 by CaptTim

Anwalt
Son found an A107 in Columbus. The store employees did not expect it and were surprised to have it at all. There were no lines as nothing "special" was supposed to come in. The A107 was nonetheless gone within the hour. Always happy when I get one of those. Anwalt
Another nice gift from the generous people in Nashville. Gonna be enjoying their hospitality for a few more day, tropical storm in PR has delayed flight from tomorrow until Tuesday. Might just run over to Belle Meade or one of the other distilleries.
