What bourbon did you purchase summer of '23?

Store manager from my local called today and had a Weller full proof for me.  The only good part of state controlled liquor is MSRP pricing..49.99.

No, but I heard this year's Single Rickhouse were from CNF.  Nothing special so far about this particular bottle of KS, but a boy can always dream.

I had a bottle of Single Rickhouse in my hand at the tasting bar at a Liquor Barn in Louisville but couldn't pull the trigger on a pour for $26.99. The SR does say it's CN F, floors 4&5. The bartender said he liked it better than RR13. Opted for the Weller Full Proof store pick for $6.99 instead.

LB tasting bar had a great selection at very reasonable prices unless it was a REALLY allocated bottle. Blanton's Gold and SFTB were both over $25 a pour. But regular Blanton's,  Baker's,  WFP,  CEHTSmB, etc. were all $4 to $8.

This is good info, thanks!  There are quite a few that I would love to sample.  I may be an outlier here, but I have never had Weller Full Proof, Bakers, Stagg, and many others that most of you probably have.  Looks like a good place to get some sensory experience.

Is this any particular Liquor Barn, or do they all have tasting bars?  I will probably be passing thru Louisville in mid-November.

I don't know if they all have it but this one was in the "Westport" area (actually on the east side of L'Ville). It even had an outdoor patio for cigars. Their beer taps also feature brewery "takeover" nights. I understand an LB in Lexington is pretty similar.  Here is an excerpt of prices.

I went out to purchase a bottle of GD #12 today. There was nothing on the shelf except GD Signature Recipe. I don't recall ever seeing this. I went ahead and purchased it. Not bad, but it doesn't taste like #12... it's more mellow, at least to me.

I went to the GD web site and found no #12 listed among their whiskies. Is this replacing the #12 or am I just out of the loop?

I just looked at the site and GD signature has a big old 12 plastered on the main label as well as the neck so my guess is yet another label refresh. I prefer the old one a couple generations back at least. Could just be batch variation you are tasting but my money is on that one still being GD12

How big are those pours? 1.5 or 2 oz?

My wife and I have two friends who are retiring tomorrow.  They are a couple and among our best friends.  They work for the same place and retiring on the same day is pretty cool.  Their kids are throwing a retirement party on Saturday.  We wanted to pick up a few bottles of alcohol that they can enjoy when traveling in their 5th wheel camper.  A local retailer has a sale on KC9 which he likes.  So, we grabbed him a bottle and her a bottle of wine.  I grabbed two more bottles of KC9 and two bottles of Alberta CS Rye for me.  My wife had an odd look on her face when I came back to the car with a box instead of a sack!  😀

No, I am not that cheap to buy a good friend a bottle of KC9 on sale as a retirement gift.  This is just for the party.  We are planning a trip to a distillery for dinner and to pick up bottles.  Those will be on me.  😀

He free poured it. I'd say it was about 1.5 oz.
