This is what you get when you roll up the windows on the Jeep when leaving work, even though you didn't drive it. 😀

Catch up time, recently a freshly cracked 4R OESF 10yr from'14 and a SoFL Mattie Gladdin bib, both good at their opposite ends of the bourbon spectrum. The most recent pour was at Old Dominick distillery in TN. Brother in law recently relocated to Memphis and serendipitously we dined at Gus famous fried chicken, OD was directly across the street (Gus's is excellent!!). I spent lunch researching OD as I knew nothing of it, their Huling station releases are currently all MGP, the Old Dominick BIB though is house distilled. After lunch we crossed the street to the distillery bar, I ordered a flight of OD bib batches 1,3 and the most current batch 4 ( no idea what became of 2??). OD as it turns out is a historic brand/distillery and features a female master distiller with roots at Wild Turkey!! OK, NOW I'm interested. These are bourbons save for the Lincoln Co process which qualifies them as TN whiskies and they are branded as such, I guess I could copy and past to the "other whiskey" forum but I'm going with bourbon!!

Batch 1 was OK, not particularly good or bad just decent whiskey. Batch 3 was a much more robust pour, traditional bourbon flavors but very nice intensity and a decent finish, solid whiskey. Batch 4 was very interesting, the start was so subtle I couldn't detect the liquid on my tongue, then as the seconds passed the sip bloomed into a delicious mid palate again traditional bourbon profile and finished long with really nice cinnamon notes. Being BiB they had the (to me) characteristic BiB one note presence vs the layers found in longer aged pours. I love that about BiBs they state their purpose, don't veer from it and then move on, finish varying with the quality of the particular bottle/batch. The flight was quite inexpensive and I would have been happy with either 3 or 4, that's where my enthusiasm ends. These bottles in the adjacent GS were 80.00!!!!

The whiskey is unique to Memphis, aged 5 vs 4 yrs. and has a genuine legacy, for $35-40 incl. the "craft tax" I would accept vs the legacy 15-20 something BiBs from the majors, a Batch 4 would have come with me no question. I do not however understand how they arrive at $80 for those when even various sourced CS, NCF bottlings with a cut for the middle man are 50ish?? The local store price wasn't much better, I'll give a couple bucks at the distillery, I get that they don't want to directly compete with store X down the block that carry's their stuff but NO WAY that bottle should have been anywhere near that price.

If you're in Memphis the facility is VERY nice and the bar pricing is reasonable, consider my curiosity satisfied and again I enjoyed the product but they missed out on a sale with pricing detached from reality even in the current bizarro world of bourbon pricing.

Maybe over time as sales volume increases they be able to decrease prices.  I have seen that with a local here in my area.  They started out with a CS Rye at $79.99.  I see it now at local retailers in the low $60s.  They are now introducing a 93 proof version for around $40.

It sounds like a great time was had at an impromtu tasting.  It is fun trying new whiskeys in a reasonably priced flight.

I was reading a thread, on a BBQ site, where members were posting about whiskey stones, (😒),  large cubes, etc.  The stones are just silly.

I guess those posts inspired, (triggered?),me.

2023 RR13 - YUMMO!   🤩

I have to agree.  All four batches have been great.  I would rank them as 1, 4, 2 then 3.
I will join you in a pour of batch 4 (2023) my friend.  Cheers!

JDSBBP in the glass....

My Buffalo glass broke.  My current glass of choice is a Knob Creek gift set glass.  Elegant and a larger diameter to disguise the volume.  Quite nice but it is no raised Buffalo glass.

I might be the only regular on here that never had one of those famed buffalo glasses.  I don't know how that happened 'cos I have tons of various whiskey glasses ... but not that one!

@Skinsfan1311 was right about MC as a freezer whiskey.  This rivals 4RYL.

You're durn tootin'!

There's something about a "teeth crackin' cold" pour of MC, straight out of the freezer.   Other than the occasional Old Fashioned, I rarely mix whiskey with anything but, in the Summer heat, MC & spicy ginger ale in an insulated mug really hits the spot.

I bought this at least five years ago and just got around to opening it.  A bit young but still tasty with classic MGP flavors of brown sugar and cinnamon at a nice proof point.  I don't think they still sell this product, tho.

Yeah good idea.  They should make a rocks glass that features the same raised turkey in flight that the Master's Keep bottles have.  I'd definitely splurge for that.

I was looking through the bunker, to find something in the 110 proof range, and forgot that I had this one.

I even dusted off the glass to celebrate the find.

Lucy approves😄

Agreed, but, how do you follow up after that pour?   AA 10 Star ain't gonna cut it....
