I saw a review of the Widow Jane Lucky Thirteen that said it is a blend of bourbons from KY, TN and IN. So, yeah, you're probably picking up the Dickel in the blend..

Kepler
We are ordering in spicy Indian food tonight (which I love) so I took the opportunity for a rare weeknight pour ... but before the spicy food arrives. I'm enjoying the last dregs of a 2007 WTKS whse B, one of the better Kentucky Spirits from that year that I've had. I'm going to miss this bottle when it's gone.
GeeTen
WTRB 116.8 in the old style decanter (bottle). Had to replace the original toilet (mfg. 1958) in the basement today and found the 2/3 empty bottle behind the bar while cleaning up. WIll probably have a dram a night and finish off whatever is left on Thanksgiving. SWMBO and I will be alone for Turkey Day as both daughters and their families will be with different in-laws in New Jersey for the holiday. Good thing/BAD thing. / Edited November 17, 2023 by GeeTen
FasterHorses
Back to the JDBP (rye) tonight. Was intending to open something new but the rye sounded good.

No, the 116.8 proof batch was first released in the old bottle design for a very short time before the new bottle design went into production. Don't see them very often but they were available for a short time.

I think Beam discontinued Distiller's Cut because it was putting their premium brands to shame. "Baby Baker's" ... I like that name a lot better than what I was calling it (poor man's Baker's). I'm gonna start calling it Baby Bakers now too! Great bourbon all things considered.

Jazz June
I'm having a sample of a Peerless bourbon store pick, which is timely as today my group booked a pick at Peerless for next month (although we are selecting a rye). When Peerless first hit the scene, I found their pricing on young rye offensive and refused on that basis alone. But now their products have aged up without much, if any, increase in the price. And I think the quality is there for both the rye and the bourbon. This particular pick has a silky mouth feel and is very rich, with quite a bit of rye spice on the finish. Some water smooths out the finish nicely. A good bourbon, especially considering it's (I think) 5 years old. I'd love to taste this at 8-9 years old. So I have done a real 180 on them and think they have a bright future. And I haven't even had their double oaked whiskeys, which are quite popular.

I have to say that a few years ago, I bought a LS Peerless that gave me the only "Truly-Peach" note that I have had in a bourbon. It was exceptional!!! Nothing since has done it for me quite like that one. Bourbon, what a BITCH!!!
bayouredd
Whipped up my 1st batch. Compliments of "Frank The Enabler". Sounds pretty mafioso. (Asian rendition, no less) This is a very decanter worthy blend!!! Thanx, Frank... Not all of it, decanter full, also...
smokinjoe
I am on a Brown-Forman rocket to utopia tonight. Picked up another Jack Daniel’s Bonded and took a flyer on an Old Forester 100 Proof today. Alternating between them both, and both are spectacular. I typically prefer the OF 86 to the 100, but this 100 bottle seems much less prickly than past bottles. Very enjoyable. The Daniel’s Bonded is always wonderful. No exception to that sentiment tonight.
