I am now at the point that I am asking myself:  "If I don' know how many bourbons I have, why do I keep buying bourbon?"  I have a friend with a gun collection that has the same issue.

Guns, knives, flashlights and bourbon, if you know how many you have, you don’t have enough.

Enjoying an ECBP. On a mission to explore strange new...no, wait. On a mission to see if the ECBP's are "so similar as to not matter" (and are consistently good) or to see if I can tell the difference (and whether some are truly "not quite so good"). Based on online comments, this was one of the "bad" batches. A bit oaky. But not overdone, right on the line for me, which is saying something since I dislike excessive (subjective, yes) tannin. Plenty of that good old ECBP flavor. I don't mind the "low" proof. Indeed, I like it. Prefer a little less oak and a bit more oiliness. But I like the lack of burn.

Had my first grenade yesterday. Less oak & complexity. Plenty of flavor & sweetness. I liked it.

Well, there are the first impressions & crude ramblings so far.

If we're around when the apocalypse comes, the SB.com people will be in pretty good shape.  🔫😉🥃

I dunno.  I have a lot of flashlights but only half of them work when I need them. 😀

At least you didn't include pens, too.

Continuing on the theme of buying more bourbon when I don' know how many I have, I got these yesterday. The Bardstown was a bundle with the Willet Pot Still and I got both for the same price as teh WPS.  I know that a lot of people do not like WPS but my wife really likes it and I bought it for those evening when we share a drink.  The Takumi KO is very nice.  Other than Weller, KO has become  one of my go to bourbons.

I have tried to reduce my bunker over the past two years and have looked to finish partially empty bottles.  I was successful for a bit but now seem to be restocking.  When the Zombie Apocalypse happens, I will be ready.

With regard to the Zombie Apocalypse. First, I think it's already here. I notice we have the slow, tranquilized, stupid Living Dead zombies. Lots of them. They seem to trend young. We also have the fast, vicious World War Z zombies (basically dead, on PCP, and highly pissed off about it), see the posts here on "Do I Feel Safe in the Cities". The contagious appears not to be via bites. Rather its seems to be transmitted via schools, universities, movies, social media, etc.

Second, excellent if depressing reading: Blockade - The Diary of an Austrian Middle-Class Woman 1914-1924 by Anna Eisenmenger. It can be downloaded for free or for a few bucks all over the internet.

It discusses the hyperinflation in Austria for the stated decade - from a very, very personal standpoint. The author is just a normal, upper-middle-class (until she wasn't) woman who chronicled her experience. Very sobering reading.

You can download a free PDF here: https://archive.org/details/Blockade-TheDiaryOfAnAustrianMiddle-classWoman1914-1924

SPOILER, do not continue if you mean to read it.

She ultimately lost everything. She managed to avoid starvation by bartering cigars from her husband's collection for food, straight from the farmers.

I explained this to the Wifey and how the bourbon is For The Family.

She seems unpersuaded. YMMV.

ECBP C922 here, damn good batch.  I've been trying to drink them in order, but couldn't help but pop my C923 to see what all the hype was about earlier this week.  Both are great, but the C923 really wins out.

Gotta say though, Larceny C922 absolutely blows them both away for me.  Really wish I stocked up on that.

A bit of ECBP A123. Not my favorite batch but still an above average bourbon.

I recently saw a review of ECBP by Fred Minnick and he referred to EC as a Holidy Bourbon due to the strong baking spice note.  I guess I never thought of EC in that context but now that Idea is firmly stuck in my head

I've never subscribed to a "season" for particular drinks when it comes to spirits or beer...or food even.  I'll have a bourbon or a port finished rye or even a stout beer in the summer.  I'll have turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce in March. I'll grill some bratwurst in the winter. I have a bourbon friend who only drinks it in the fall and winter.

A lot of batches of ECBP do have a strong baking spice note.  The A123 last night I noticed has a very prominent nutty note to it.

Yesterday was 1792 SiB,, Calumet 10, ECBP C923. Was a good night, so good. One thing I've learned, if having a lower proof have it first, then climb. Otherwise it will seem disappointing!!

I would agree 99% with the above statements.   My lone caveat would by AE rye, for some reason that just says the Holidays to me.

I think it just screams "dessert".  But I'll admit that MWND was always my typical Thanksgiving pour.  But I think it had just as much to do with the time of year it was released as its flavor profile.

While I have never drank a bourbon seasonally, I do tend to switch from lagers to darker beers and from white to red wine when the weather gets cooler.  I just thought was an interesting observation about ECBP.  I find myself being more interested in our brains connect disassociated things like a specific taste to a specific event.  Tastes and smell are often associated with very specific and strong memories.

Now if I really want to poke the bear, I would just ask everyone to describe "smooth" in a bourbon but I don't want to overload the SB servers...

What a coincidence. My wife just got back from a business trip in upstate NY and beyond. She brought us back an A121.

She was hunting for another C923 in NY, ME, NH, etc, and almost to a store, they told her they didn't order any C923s as they have so many of the B523s and older batches sitting around that they can't move.

I haven't tried the A121 and I was going to bunker it, but I think you've convinced me to move it to the front of the rotation.

Working on a large pour of WTKS.  The neck tag says it is a Camp Nelson Special #5.  I have no idea what that means but it is tasty!

I haven’t touched on in years but you are correct.  At my peak it was 16.  Due to health issue (neuropathy) I’m down to about 10 and 2 mandolins.  So yea, definitely guitars.  The mind is willing but the body is weak.
