ggilbertva
Long day.....so I rewarded myself with - 1996 EWSBCabin Still 86 proof (distilled early 80's)Old Fitz BIB (distilled 1976)
Aged In Oak
Relaxing before bed with some Buffalo Trace. Something about this bourbon I just really enjoy... tasty, but not overly complex. Makes a great everyday pour, and provides consistent enjoyment (for me).
CrispyCritter
With the hot weather here, it's a nice evening for ice-cold cocktails. First I made one of my "Front Street" cocktails (with OGD BIB as the base). Now, I made a variation of the Cocktail a la Louisiane:3/4 oz. OGD BIB (instead of the usual Rittenhouse BIB)3/4 oz. Punt e Mes (instead of regular red vermouth)3/4 oz. Bénédictine liqueur (as in the standard recipe)3 dashes Peychaud's Bitters (ditto)3 dashes pastis (ditto, I used Pontarlier-Anis)Stir with ice, strain into a cocktail glass, garnish with a cherry. Tasty either way you make it! The Punt e Mes nicely balances the extra sweetness of the bourbon.

HipFlask
Bell's Octoberfest beer and Rittenhouse BIB and Lot B as the finisher. First day back to work after a week and a half of vacation. So it was all well deserved. Prost
Special Reserve
HipFlask,How's the Bell's? I like their Oberon but as a general rule, I've found Oktoberfest Beers to be lacking. Having more promise in the mind than in the bottle.Thanks.Will
HighTower
Tonight I went to my favorite bar with camduncan and both of our wives. It started with Woodford Reserve, moved on to Gentleman Jack, then Elijah Craig and then some Old Grandad 114.I'm home now and I decided to open my 06 Stagg. Holy crap I think it's almost time for bed!I loved the 131.8....this 140.6 is really warming me up!!Scott
ggilbertva
I couldn't wait. I opened one of the just received Binny's Weller 12 year. I pick up some oak on the nose and tongue. Semi sweet in the middle. Finish is a little dry and doesn't linger too long. It's a nice bourbon, definitely good neat. I'll try it with some ice or water later on but at 90 proof...not sure how it will stand up.

mozilla
Hell, I woke up this morning wanting the drink I didn't have last night. JW Dant Bib 1990 from DSP 2 bottled DSP 16(only took a sip). After a half day of work I'm having some Private Cellar from the Medley days, sure is mellow.

jburlowski
Finished off a long-ignored bottle of BT. This has been my daily pour but lately I've been sidetracked with other (and more esoteric) brands. I'd forgotten how great BT is... love that perfect amount of rye bite. heatmiser
Last night we finished off my Elmer T Lee. It had been awile since I have had this and was very pleased. What a great bourbon!!!
Gillman
A small amount of Dickel 1970's/80's (this bottle is going to Gazebo and is just superb: sweetish, oak/char accents and something medicinal but not vitamin-like). Then my excellent vatting of HH 6 years old (non-bonded), bonded HH, Fighting Cock (all current) and a 1970's HH. Gary
bigtoys
Finally made a Manhattan at home. Assembled the ingredients: I actually put the Knob in the freezer for a couple of hours, next to the Bombay sapphire. Here it is. I'm thinking about going 3:1 bourbon (or maybe rye):vermouth next time.
mgilbertva
Very pretty, bigtoys!I was enjoying an Old Forester BIB from the late 80s/early 90s (dsp KY 354). I don't think I like it as much as the BIBs from dsp 414, but it's tasty nonetheless. Big mouthful of brown sugar and caramel, then toffee and fresh coffee grinds (not at all unpleasant). Then, going into the finish it takes a mild yet odd turn to tannic - from the wood, obviously - but it's the kind of tannin I get from strong tea. A little disconcerting.Very different from dsp 414 BIBs I've had (which I adore). Not as complex or elegant. Still, it's something I will return to and enjoy. cousin it
Knob Creek 9 year old 100°My ignorant contribution: I can smell a friuty ... with a apple coming on strong(after I let it set for a couple of minutes)Taste: sweet, but not as sweet as WT, some bitter on the side of the tongue, a lot of caramel, with, it seems like buttery mid tongue, there is other flavors, I just can't describe them(ignorance).Afterwards: kind of spicy? and some other flavor, Is that what leather is? not hot at all.I know, I have a lot to learnEDIT: ok, this is my 2nd or 5th snifter. I just put out a smoke, so we will see. I'm not looking at whats is above ... so here goes:nose: i still smell the apple, but I think I smell something nutty, it is almost like I can smell something maple(?WTF), maybe some butterscotch after it sitsTaste: I can definitly taste honey towards the back of the tounge, some butter towards the front.(burp), nutty in there somewhere before the gullet.after: I think I taste leather(1st taste) and definitely the spice.I did not peak at my first taste. please feel free to educate me ... all criticisms welcome. I pretty much just drank 101 for years, but I am trying to broaden my horizons.Damn, one could catch a buzz doing this.Cheers TimothyEDIT: a definite buzz
