When I entered SB.com, the pic was Jefferson Reserve, so that's what I had. That's my new system--if I have what shows first, that's what I'll drink. Helps with decision making.

bigtoys,

I love your method! Infact I decided I would give it a go, as I felt like a bourbon myself. Re-entered the site, first option EW Black. I have a sealed bottle here, and its the old 8yo age statement, and I don't want to open it yet.

So I hit refresh, and it was Pappy 23. I have a full sealed bottle, which I am not opening just because it's Wednesday night and I'm thirsty  Plus, I have a cold.

Refreshed again and it pointed me at Old Pogue. Don't have one yet. Then it was Jefferson's Reserve. I have one bottle of the 15yo, sealed, but it isn't available in Australia, so I'm not opening it for now. Sam Houston followed, and I don't have any. Then I landed on BT. I have an open bottle but when I went to get it, I decided I wanted Weller 12

Maybe next time??

I wish I could shake this cold, this is the 3rd time I have had it. I think there might be too much blood in my alcohol system......

Scott

A WT RR 101 Manhattan as a pre-supper cocktail. I've been drinking so many Old Fashioneds when in the mood for a cocktail I almost forgot how much I like Manhattans!

A pour of the new Four Roses Rutledge 40th Anniversary Barrel Proof. This one was from barrel 17-1C and was 102.8 proof. Lovely stuff. :woohoo:

Last night it was three generous pours of Makers Mark. I tried each pour differently. Pre dinner - Makers Neat. With Dinner - Makers on Ice. For desert, I had Makers on ice with a half glass of coke. Each pour just seemed to suit what I was after at each stage of the evening...:skep:

Last night I opened a 375ml bottle of Old Taylor 80 proof. Distilled 1984, bottled 1990. Not sure what it was but the finish seemed very medicinal. I couldn't finish it. I poured an Eagle Rare 10 101....much better end to a long week.

Tonight we did a little UFC accompanied by Dalwhinnie 15, Four Roses Single Barrel and then some Rare Breed and Ginger.

Just finishing up a glass of Louis M. Martini 2004 Cab we had with a late supper. It's OK but it could be bolder/fuller. I suppose I expect too much for 15 bucks. I wish I knew more about wine but it's such an intimidating subject.

I was a bourbon rebel last night and went with a pour of Edradour Cask Strength Marsala Finish - Highland Single Malt.

In my experience $25 or so is the line between cabernets that taste good and those with decent body. I really prefer the ones over $40, but that's more than I want to pay regularly.

The selection at Sam's Club is limited, but they've usually got some a few decent reds in the $20-$30 range.

Healthy pour of Weller 107. Man this stuff is good. One more pour from the bottle and it will be joining the empty bottle support group.

Ridgemont Reserve 1792. I have not had a pour of this in a long time and am pleasantly surprised. The nose is not a great indication of the flavor I am finding. I feel an oily texture, then caramel and a little spice. Maybe from the "malt" suggestion from another thread, I seem to be picking up more of that. A nice finish, with a little spice and honey lingering.

Tonight started with a few glasses of my favorite mid-shelf scotch whisky's (Scapa 14 & Clynelish 14). Next up was a few glasses of my favorite mid-shelf tequilas (Hacienda de la Flor Anejo & La Cofradia Anejo). I finished the evening with the last of my BHC Weller Centenial. It was a nice quiet evening after the kids went to bed, watched some Tivo'd Monday Night Football and drank some old favorites...

Last dram from a most wonderful bottle of Glenfarclas 21. Really sorry to see it go and will purchase again without hesitation. Next up probably a pour of Stagg.

A small, early pour of Dickel 12 after a tough work day.

Perhaps some 1980s Old Forester BIB before the night is through.

In between, I'll be having Baker's.

Another birthday so it's WLW '06 for me. I contemplated opening a bottle of PVW 15 years but the Weller caught my eye. Good, good and good.

In honor of the Boston Legal season premiere, I emptied the last 2-3 oz of Balvenie Portwood 21 yr old single malt over a couple of small rocks.

I read the tasting notes on various websites...honey, nutty, dry....beeswax, blackberries, toffee, vanilla...fruity, ripe raisins, creamy, silky, honey, spice, nutty....jeez, you could say anything; who can argue?

All I can say is: very smooth. Goes down easy. May have to open up the bunker bottle that I got in Ealge River, WI last year for around $85; it's well over $100 now around here. Gotta be one of my favorites.

Wanted some Old Weller 107, but my allergies are acting up and I don't think I would be able to fully appreciate it. Therefor, Old Taylor 86 from 1989. Wow, this stuff is so fat and mellow. I wish someone could make bourbon like this in todays market.

Happy BDay, bro!

Enjoyed a glass of '95 Henry McKenna SB. I opened it up a couple weeks ago and have been enjoying it thoroughly. Very balanced, with all the intensity one hopes for in a BIB and not too much heat. Caramel, the HH menthol and eucalyptus, and anise. Some fruit that I can't quite identify yet.

It's the first time I've tried it and now I'm glad I bought a few bottles: I bunkered another '95, a '94 and '92. I don't know yet if the vintages vary as much as, say, EWSB, but since it is SB I would assume it would have to vary some. But without having any others to compare it to, I would recommend the '95 without reservation.
