A couple of pours of ER101 tonight. I have four unopened ones bunkered, so I figured I'd go ahead and open the fifth one that I recently found.

Finished things off with some more OW107, Dant Bib 1990 dsp 2/16, Turkey Rye, Old Taylor 86 and a few others.

Had a great day! My sisters kids sang me Happy B-day on the phone this morning....what a treat. Cheers to all of you on my favorite day.

Tonight it is a pour of RR101. I haven't had this bourbon for about 3 years, I was quite fond of it then (though it could have been the atmosphere). I have tried many bourbons since then, and tonight this isn't hitting the spot. KS is more my thing.

Tonight, I'm savoring a pour of my rarely-opened gold wax Hirsch 16. Mmmmm... I wish there had been more than one on the shelf when I found it among a sea of gold foil.

Scott save it for hot weather and drink it with lots of ice.

Summer is just about three months away, for you.

I'll keep it in mind, Oscar!

It's been a long week at work (and the week isn't even over yet...) but we completed the final testing a few hours ago I think it should be smooth sailing for tomorrow. Anyway, it's time to relax; with a bit of Weller Antique 107.

Blanton's SB from Binny's

Was this one of their hand selected barrels? If so, how do you think it compares to a normal off-the-shelf Blanton's?

Mark, It was. I wish I could tell you that I denoted a difference from what I had on hand, but that would be untrue. I have a case, so the experimentation can continue.

Some GTS... I lost (via a recent computer crash) the list of Stagg expressions. This is 140.6 proof stuff.. great toffee notes that wowed the neighbors.

Killed the bottle ,but it went down in glory...

As expected the cork broke in two as I tried to pull it from the bottle after carefully cutting the foil seal and tax strip. I tried the cork extractor I bought at shop rite but it only pushed the piece that remained in the neck slightly further down so I abandoned this and reached for my last option, the corkscrew. Shortly thereafter the cork was crumbled to many pieces, some in the whiskey, so it was through the coffee filter in the stainless steel funnel and into another bottle. I stopped for a quick pour, nose, and taste when I saw the time, it was almost no longer my birthday so I thought it best to give it a whirl, it was good, only a slight bit of mustiness in the taste and none in the nose; I’ve had a lot worse with much younger older bottles. The original bottle was thoroughly washed and rinsed of all the remaining cork pieces and then after some drying time the bourbon was returned to it’s original home. Could I have gotten something just as good or even a little better, even something aged longer and from the same distillery that wouldn't present this hassle? Yes, but what kind of birthday present to myself would that be? :) My first VOF, this one is from 1958. Thanks Jack, whoever you were, for saving this for me!

(and no, I'm not that clumsy, the filter has all of the cork it caught and all of the cork i swept off the table.)

Tonight was a two pour evening. Started off with a 1978 Old Fitz Prime 90. Second pour, Binny's pick Weller 12 year. Both excellent.

I have a slight cold, and it has been a bad week at work (boohoo for me) so I needed something that can cut through the congestion and bruised spirit...06 Stagg did the trick. One more glass of that and all will be right with the world.

Last night I had a ginger and WT 8 Yr 101. While I wouldn't normally mix a dusty with ginger, I just seemed right last night. Yum.

ER 17 '06. If I remember right this was distilled the year I graduated high school; 1988. A lot has changed since then. I remember filling the tank of my 1975 Olds 98 Regency for less than a buck a gallon; for premium. And my biggest worry was making it back home before curfew. Ahh, memories.

Did your regency 98 have the pillowy velour interior? I remember when those cars were new; I was learning to drive then. My dad had a 73 Cutlass Supreme and I'm pretty sure the color was Columbian Gold--could I be hallucinating that??

sorry for this off-topic post. As a penalty, I'll go have a shot of Jack, there, all's well. Unless someone's gonna point out that it's not bourbon.

As a punishment JD is fine, also fine for punishment is JB White (and not the 7yo) and Early Times.
