I will be throwing back the '07 BTAC with the exception of Handy.

I'll be seeing you all in the "All Accounted for..." thread in Off Topic. Roll call at 10PM!

That sounds like a great pour, Greg. I'm a big fan of Weller Antique. Is there a big difference in flavor than the regular Weller Antique? And, how did you happen upon such a seemingly rare find?

Nick,

I too like Weller Antique very much but this single barrel variant is over the top fantastic. I love it. I acquired 3 bottles that were privately bottled by another enthusiast. I have three more bottles that come from a second barrel but have not picked them up yet. The big difference is of course the extra years of aging and the fact that it's a single barrel. I think it's significantly better that the regular pour, which is great on it's own.

Tonight it was a toss up between ORVW 10 and Blanton's Silver. Blanton's won out this evening.

Weller Antique 107...Starting to understand this one a bit, and like it more with every pour. Interesting for this bourbon newby to compare the this weaty to a rye heavy one like OBD BIB...both very good, and very different..

I realize most of you bourbon boasters are asleep by now - on the east coast, anyway - but I'm just getting started!

I started with some GTS '07 then went to some WLW '07 (somewhat dissapointing) and then back to the GTS. After this small little second sampling, I'll be heading to the ER BTAC and then finish the last coat with Saz BTAC.

Oh yea. Tonight's the night, my whiskey wallowers. I'm tasting all the BTAC's and while I may lose in the morning, tonight I am the Bourbon Bouncer.

Okay, I've had a little too much Stagg. What do you expect, I'm sharing this stuff with the fruit flies. I've got to drink quick or these little sippin' suckers will finish the glass for me.

Just to let everyone know, GTS takes center stage between the '07 BTAC's I've tried, followed by the Saz and Weller. I still have yet to try the ER (which will happen tonight) and Handy.

Good riddence, liver.

Regards,

Lilly Livered

how's the weather in CT?

i am enjoying 2 pours of the Eagle Rare 10 Single Barrel...and a comparative pour of Bulleit for fun.

butterscotch tabasco versus redhots rye...nice competition: my brain loses and wins at the same time......!:)

that is, if quality wins over quantity...

It's windy in CT. Well, it was before I lost ability to feel. However, I think I've gained a 6th sense in the process. It could be a wash, don't know yet. Can x-ray vision be considered a sense?

What's the weather like in your neck of the woods/high-rises/burbs?

I started with a pour, my first pour, of some 07' GTS as well tonight. I've just finished it and now it's on to yet another pour of 07' GTS. Another great GTS; big, bold and worth the trip to a neighboring state. At some point I should probably start and finish the small pour of 06' GTS I poured to compare to the 07'. I was looking forward to a side by side but after I started on the 07' I thought it best to focus on that one.

Sorry to hear that you were slightly disappointed by the WLW, the only thing that disappointed me about it was that the store I bought the GTS in today didn't have it. I did sample it at Whiskyfest and I thought it was great! Hopefully my other sources will come through with some for me.

I hear ya! When I don't have to get up for work the next day I usually don't pour my first drink until around 11:30.

in a kind of sub-suburbs...(outside of philly, but minutes from a Borders or B&N)

still a bit windy here, making the sipping more adventurous. the crunch of leaves adds to the tasting experience i think!

yes, x-ray "vision" is another sense...not a numerical one, tho....

hmmm.....x-ray is an Nth degree sense....or a meta-sense. or/and both....?

anyways, just happy as a clam to have this big ole bottle of Eagle Rare to keep me company for awhile...if i do it right!

Had my first pour of the 07 Stagg last night followed by a pour of the 07 Weller. Both well received, but certainly different.

Nick,

I acquired 3 bottles that were privately bottled by another enthusiast.

Correction...I was incorrect in that this was not private in the sense of singular ownership but this bottling was done for a couple of local liquor stores. I acquired the bottles via trade from a fellow enthusiast. Sorry for the mistake.

Two fingers of Single Barrel Jack Daniels with a dash of soft water and two good dashes of Peychaud's bitters.

The bitters cut some of the "banana acetone" taste and sweetness but leave enough to make them interesting, while adding its own particular notes of spice and bitter.

I have found the way to drink Jack Daniels.

Very good, Gary. You didn't mention ice, so I didn't include any -- originally. Then I added two mid-sized cubes, and suffered no noticeable degradation. But it certainly cuts the can-be-cloying sweetness.

Old Ezra 7 yr 101-proof.

An old everyday pour I hadn't had in quite some time. Very nice. Doesn't really fully taste like HH. Perhaps they get add'l bulk whiskey elsewhere?

Thanks, Tim, I'll try ice next time: it cannot hurt especially if the drink is freshly consumed.

Maybe bourbons later on this eve...but currently I'm working on killing a keg of homebrew, and making beer. Blew one keg earlier tonight, hoping the other will go. Problem is, I don't exactly have a brew ready to put on right away. I've an Imperial Stout & 2 ciders months from being ready...sigh...I've also kegged 2 beers tonight. A spiced holiday amber and a red ale.

Once the beer is gone, onto the bourbons!

Fellas, I'm taking the night off. It's much needed. After last night's drinking and the Pats/Colts game today, I'm just worn out.

But, I'll be back tomorrow to bite the dog and all that.

Weller Antique SB with a splash of Willett#1 (about 5:1 or so). Very nice, full and rich, but with a bit if something in the nose that I don't care for. It's not someting I pick up in either bottle by itself, but showed up in the blend...I'll forgive it, as the flavor is great, with that wonderful gritty/dirty flavor you only get in unfiltered bottlings.
