callmeox
Oscar, you may want to skip reading this.OGD 114 with two small cubes to light it up a bit. I'm finally catching the anise in this, though the smell used to hit my nose like it was wet paper. We're having 20 people over Saturday night for a 40th b-day shindig for my wife, so I've been hustling most of the day getting things ready. It's nice to sit down and relax.
gothbat
'06 GTS, didn't add any water yet; for the first time in a while I felt like taking some notes: a - very dark with a fine mist of char swirling aboutn - chocolate and wood, some sting too if you're too eagert - more than anything this reminds me of these coffee cream chocolates my brother brought back from germany alhough this is pretty hot in the mouth. with each sip some wood seemed to replace a bit more of the chocolatesf - a good spicy hit of rye and then coffee all through with a bit of char, wood, and burn; it's a pretty long finish, traces of flavor linger for a while with this one
funknik
Baker's. Best of Beam!I try not to go corporate, but I've been wanting to try this for a while but the hefty price tag has dissuaded me. I have to say that, while I think there are many better value boiurbons out there, this is really primeau stuff. I usually drink my whiskey neat, but after I added a splash of water, this got velvety smooth in my mouth -- it does not feel like a 107 proof liquor -- there is virtually no heat IMO. I taste fruit (cherry & vanilla) and a nice rye finish that mellows into another taste I don't quite recognize and fades. Although I can't see buying this regularly, I could easily drink this all the time: I consider it the jewel of the Small Batch Collection.
Virus_Of_Life
2007 Stagg, finally opened one. I don't drink it much anymore because I usually regret it the next day.Tried it straight like I do all Stagg, way over the top. After a couple table spoons of water it is reasonable. Good but nothing great, not as good as I recall the 2005 of which I don't think I have any bunkered unfortunately. I definitely do not see myself racing through this bottle of 144.8!I think the novelty of the Stagg has worn off on me.... Now 2006 WLW is another story! camduncan
Tonight is our first true hot and humid evening with storms all around (26C and 90% humidity.) I spent a pleasant evening out on the back veranda with my Wife and Mother in-law, watching the lightning display and sipping on a nice pour from a bottle of Bookers I’ve been keeping in the freezer for just such an occasion. Camduncan, Do you have a lot of nasties in your area? We always see on tv how Australia is crawling with nasty spiders, snakes, ocean critters etc. Can you enjoy an evening out without checking first for such critters? Does bourbon or whiskey repel them?
jburlowski
Last night it was WTRB while watching "Leatherheads".The bourbon was much, much better than the DVD.
camduncan
Camduncan, Do you have a lot of nasties in your area? We always see on tv how Australia is crawling with nasty spiders, snakes, ocean critters etc. Can you enjoy an evening out without checking first for such critters? Does bourbon or whiskey repel them? Not really Jono. We're city dwellers who live about 2.5 miles from the CBD of our states capital city (pop: 1.6 million), so the likelyhood of critters is pretty slim. We occasionally hear tales of snakes being sighted in the suburbs, but I've never seen one. Our only concern is redback spiders - not deadly, but a bite can make you sick. They tend to like making homes under chairs on the varanda, so it's easy to annoy one when you sit on the chair. We've seen maybe 5 in 10 years, and a quick hit with a shoe or a burst of bug spray tends to sort them out. I did grow up surfing on the Gold Coast (about 35 miles south of where we live now), so have seen my fair share of sharks and blue bottle jelly fish. PAspirit1
I've been in the habit lately of starting with Weller Antique and following it with Woodford Reserve. They are very different and both are excellent.
chilidawg7
Enjoying a healthy pour of Lot B. This is my first experience with this bourbon, as I just stumbled upon a moderately priced bottle at a small, local liquor store. I am enjoying it neat, as well as some over a cube of ice. callmeox
We had a houseful tonight celebrating my wife's birthday and there were a couple of whiskey drinkers in the crowd. We enjoyed pours of WLW '07, Saz 18 '07, BT and WTRR101.After cleaning up the leftover food (pizza and a big sandwich) I'm relaxing with some Ritt 80 and ginger ale. Virus_Of_Life
Holy Crap, I am in Beer Nirvana! Just finished a Pliny the Elder, and I have to say it pretty well lived up to the hype - really a great beer. Now I am working on a Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA, another wow.I appreciate all ends of the beer spectrum and would happily have a Busch Light after these two, but damn when I crave a rich flavorful brew I know what to look for now!
