ggilbertva
Dinner at my parents house last night so I brought along a 375 of IW Harper 86p c.1980. Nose was somewhat muted but tastes wonderful. Hints of dried fruit, oak, vanilla with a very pleasant sweet finish that had a little burn at the end. Been quite some time since I've had this and forgot what a great pour it is. jburlowski
Yesteday: a neighborhood tradition... BT and home-made burgoo and the Breeders Cup. Did well until the Classic, when I was ahead and thought I was smart.Later, around the fire pit with a variety of pours until it was very, very late. Reminds me of the great saying: "I love the nights I can't remember, with the friends I can't forget."Slow recovery today. Late afternoon, cool but sunny and all alone and admiring the changing leaves from the lower deck. Trying to decipher FR Miriage... I think I like it. Life doesn't get much better than this. PhilsFan
Had a second pour of JTS Brown last night to get me through 2am when the Phils won in an exciting 9th inning...Tonight glad to see Ryan Howard come through and hit a homer to left...and unbelievable, Joe Blanton, a terrible hitter (he hits like a pitcher) also hit a home run! Through it all I'm enjoying a pour of FR 120th!-Joe
Gillman
60's decanter Beam's Choice. It's got a good sweetness and a full, tangy taste and long finish with spearmint-like rye accents. In the range of bourbons today, I'd say nothing in the Beam line reminds me of it and the only distiller whose products seem close is Buffalo Trace and even then only a couple of brands, notably Blanton (neglected I think on the board of late) and Hancock's Reserve. The 60's Beam is a little sweeter though, as if you added some non-earthy RHF to Blanton.Gary

voigtman
Stagg 06. Even with my poor palate, definite tobacco and a little maple shine through. This makes the 4th Stagg bottling I've had the pleasure of trying. Not counting this very first pour of 06 from the bottle I just opened, my favorite was the 05, followed by the 03 and, way further back, the spring 05 (lot . Last year, I didn't get even one bottle of any of the BTAC 2007 releases and this year I am not even going to read the BTAC 2008 release specs here at SB: just too hard to scrounge up a bottle and I have slowly realized that, as great as Staggs are, there are other bourbons that are also great, and far more easily obtained.
