Luna56
Decided to take a little break from bourbon tonight and cracked a bottle of Laphroaig 10. Weird, wonderful stuff. There's nothing like an Islay.Cheers!
ILLfarmboy
I usually don't drink this early in the afternoon but I'm having a pour of GTS (144.3) I think that's the '07 release (?)
Gillman
I've been lucky enough to find additional ND OTs and OGs on recent forays through the northeast. The OT is stamped on the base '87 and the label states it is distilled and bottled by Old Taylor Distillery Company Frankfort, KY. It is 86 proof and soft and full on the palate with brown sugar notes but not really "butterscotch" as many such bottlings seem to be. (Each that I have had is slightly different). This one seems to justify Michael Jackson's contemporary description of Old Taylor as being 10-12 years old despite the lower age statement. The Gran-dad is stamped '88 on the base and is bonded whiskey. It is shown of course as distilled at DSP KY 14. It has a beautiful molasses-dark colour, like an old Demerara rum shot with red highlights. The taste is sweet and rich with chocolate and mango notes. Depending on when I taste these, there seems to be possibly slight bottle oxidation (that slight metallic note). I don't care. kickert
I tried to Weller Antique tonight. I was not as impressed as many on this board are. It was good, but did not seem like anything more than a stouter version of Weller SR.However, with that tasting, I chalked up my 40th bourbon since first getting into it 6 months ago. ILLfarmboy
Had some Gran Centenario Plata with some home-made nachos for supper. Now I'm enjoying more '07 GTS The tequila is almost gone, just a couple ounces left. I really like this Blanco. With money being tight right now and the fact that I'm gonna buy a couple bottles of this year's Stagg when I get down to Peoria next week, I don't know whether I want to try something different; an aged respado or replace it with a bottle of the same thing or try an other Blanco. I'm almost a bit afraid that with a respado or anjio the wood will present itself in such a way that to my tastes it reminds me too much of an aged whiskey and it will seem like it is neither fish nor fowl. I tend to like things that are very distinct.

I ran into a bottle of their Anejo for a very good price as well and it too is very good! Neither show the age much but are very satisfying. If you just want a nice Blanco or Silver Milagro's make a great mixer as well.Cheers!Tony

gblick
I tried to Weller Antique tonight. I was not as impressed as many on this board are.I'm a die-hard Weller 107 fan, but most of my appreciation comes from my experience with the older bottlings. Awhile back I opened up a very recent bottling and was not quite as impressed with it. But after being opened up for a couple of weeks, I think it has gotten much better. If you just opened your bottle, I bet you will like it more after it has had some time to breathe.

Gus nailed it, let that bottle breathe for a little while and revisit, you may find it has a whole new depth of flavors you did not find the first time.Tony
