Yesterday it was double bastard ale and ORVW 15. Today Samuel Adams honey porter, Hercules double IPA and JD silver select 101607. The later was marvellous and also a bit surprisingly much better with the apple pie and vanilla sauce witch I had for dessert both days, then the van Winkle. How said that Tennessee whiskey isn’t as good as bourbon and rye?

Great day today in Washington, took a walk with the wife to enjoy the weather between football games and now watching the game drinking WTRB, neat...after that EC12.

Add that to the Apple Cup win by Wazzu in double overtime yesterday and it made for a great weekend.

Short tastes of the following to decide on which one for teh nite:

Willett 25 yr 90 proof - good

Willett 27 yr S&W... just a touch of water makes this bad boy open like a champ. Caramel, brown suger, and good old S&W.

ORVW 15/107. WOW... I forget just how damn good this bourbon is... It has the charicteristics of the 27 yr Willett, but just a touch sweeter.....

Old Fitz 6 yr 1963 - tasty

Old Fitz Bib 82 - tasty

Julios PVW 15yr... best of the bunch. It even bested the ORVW 15 yr... deaper and more to it... that was a grat barrel....

after a few nice sips of this ever increasing example of depth from a big bottle of EC12, i dumped a bit of WT101 in to challenge the subtle warmth and sweetness...i almost get a sense of OGD114: warmth and spiciness

After your post in the non-bourbon section, I opened the WT rye I had, along with the last few sips of Rittenhouse, and the o8 TH Handy Sazerac. I'd get some of the Rittenhouse if I were you...

The nose of the WT is more sterile with a lot of doctor's office, while the Rittenhouse is sweet/honey and floral, and the Saz more spicy candy.

The WT rye seems too hot for me, and the aftertaste isn't pleasant IMHO. Perhaps I shouldn't have tried it neat, but the 128 proof Saz goes down much easier.

Bottom line: the Rittenhouse and Saz make me want another sip to affirm what I think I just tasted, while the WT doesn't. YMMV.

If it's legal I'll send you a bottle, but the great thing about Rittenhouse is going and getting a bottle for 12-15 locally. It's not like it's gonna change your life after you have a bottle/ taste it. Are you sure your state can't get it? If not I'd try special ordering some, which i did- and then bought the other ten bottles of the case off the shelf one-by-one.

In solidarity with the "Which Van Winkle to open?" thread, some ORVW 15. It is my favorite. Not much longer until this bottle takes me to the "Empty Bottles Support Group" thread.

thanks for the notes and comments! let me see if PA or NJ or DE or even MD has this....i am near enough to the 'quad-state' area to make a leap...online is even better (if PA allows...i thinketh not).

but funny, i've only had one bottle of the WT rye....and to me it was a more candy sweet AND spicier than one of my favorites, WT101...i was pleasantly surprised.

but i've yet to try the others....and OOverholt, quite a bargain, but not the treasure. my true rye experience is minimal.

WLWeller Centennial and so glad I am.

I have some of these bunkered away and I haven't had one since last Spring.

This week feels good for it with the Holiday just two days away.

I finished off a WLarueW '08 over the weekend and this Centennial is helping to get over it.

Amazing that they 1/2 price bottle makes a good backup... that Centennial is just crazy good!!! I need more myself...

Starting the evening with AA BIB. Good pour at $14 a 750. Will be moving on to additional drams......Saz 18 or mid 80's JW Dant BIB.....choices, choices.
