WOW! One of my best bourbon nights ever, by far.

Thanks to doubleblank's post here, I found out that the Bellagio has quite a selection at one of the bars (it's actually listed as the 'Baccarat Bar' on the receipts) and will comp it to you if you sit down and play $1 video poker.

Me and a buddy sat there for a good solid hour. I introduced him to Pappy 15, EC 18 and Hirsch 16 (not sure of the wax color/foil or whatever.) Our bartender Darren was very knowledgable and helpful. I first ordered us a Pappy 15 and we were talking about how good it was. I told him I had not yet had the opportunity to try the Hirsch. He gave me a pour and after I tried it, asked "Doesn't even come close to the Pappy, does it?" I agreed with him. It was OK, but tasted side by side with the Pappy, I'd choose Pappy every time.

I then asked if they had anything he considered to be close to the Pappy in quality and he poured sa the EC 18. Better than the Hirsch, IMHO, but still not as good as our first pour of Pappy. So we enoyed another 2 pours of Pappy and left the bar about 90 minutes later, me up $8 and my buddy up $10.

Also got some helpful advice from fishnbowljoe that I will try to cash in on tomorrow - thanks Joe!

All in all, a wonderful night.

Had a nice dram of a 17 year old Longmorn, and a pint of Port Brewings Hop 15. I felt like I was back in Cali...so much hoppy goodness.

well, now enjoying the mega bottle of EC12 i just got.

interesting. and i am happy to have gotten a GOOD bottle (compared to what others have experienced...that inconsistency of bottlings!).

but this IS a great pour. it's smooth, but not characterless. not at all.

it's got a bite, but not violent at all. rather smooth, but with a subtle jaggedness i can appreciate. lots of old leather/wood/mustiness that NEVER worked for me before, but this is a perfect balance of such.

think i'll spend another hour with this and see what happens

What does the Willett taste like? I saw this at The Park Avenue Liquor Shop in Manhattan today for $44. I was interested but did not purchase it.

Started with a glass of madeira, Blandy's 5-year Malmsey. Moving onto the 2006 Saz 18. Maybe not as good as the 2005 but it's hitting all the right spots right now :)

Tonight I've been enjoying a couple of Mint Juleps made with Makers Mark - very refreshing after a long hot day

While sitting at an outdoor bar at the Wynn in Las Vegas, I enjoyed a pour of WT 101, then a bit of Macallan 18.

At dinner, I had a generous pour of Maker's Mark, neat.

This evening, while grilling out on a fairly cold afternoon, I had a Manhattan cocktail made with Old Grand Dad 86-proof. I tried to drink it with no ice, but it wasn't hitting the spot, so I added two cubes. Ahhhhhh....

enjoying the small celebration of a DAWG (i.e., Mississippi State) victory over Arkansas, i am sipping from my 3rd bottle of WT101 this year...and i have to admit, these latest two fifths (both from the last two months) taste DIFFERENT from all the previous W101s i've had over the years. these have a peculiar finish....it's not char....it's.....hmmm......extreme oakiness??? i'm really not sure. i know palates change, too....but something is DIFFERENT. not that it is for the worse, but i am missing some notes i would expect. and getting some i didn't quite bargain for....yet.......

it's like the barrels weren't charred enough...(?)
