The following four single neat bourbons ran me 80 bucks.

Makers Mark Black Wax to start (Half way through this i added a small ice cube to take it down down to a more enjoyable - for me - 90 proof or so).

Pappy Van Winkle Handmade Bourbon 4 yr (green bottle) next. Almonds!!! Yum!

Then a Wild Turkey Sherry Signature. Very enjoyable.

Finishing with at Dickel Barrel Select. Vanilla milkshake!!

I am kickin' off Thanksgiving,

so what better way to celebrate the bountiful harvest than with a bottle of the very bountiful

George T Stagg @ 141.8 proof from the 2008 BTAC.

Oh yes, neat of course.

It's part of the BT Antique collection. Sixty five dollars in my area.

Yesterday it was WT 8 export before dinner, red wine with the dinner, JD silver select with the dessert and a small Stagg 2003 afterwards.

Stagg jumped to $72 this year here in VA. Last year it was $69.

Relaxing with the family at Great Wolf Lodge this weekend and after a long day of hitting the water slides and the hot tub, I'm kicking back with some Lot B and the Toddy's Willett bottling (7/124.6) over ice. I'll probably be out of work as of Tuesday, so I'm enjoying the weekend.

Finished off my bottle of '07 Handy tonight. Perfect T-Day rye. When it was first opened it had lots of ginger and allspice, followed by pumpkin. When I tried it at first I found the ginger to be a bit too much.

Now that I've had the bottle open for several months, the ginger and allspice have receded. In its place is malt, mild cinnamon, a touch of spearmint, diner coffee, maple. The original flavors of pumpkin, ginger and allspice are still there, just more in balance with the other flavors. I love this rye now.

Good thing I have another bottle.

Went to Lexington, KY for Thanksgiving...had some AAA 10 year back at home...Yesterday, did the Light Up Louisville Wendy's Winter Wonderland Parade...then had Weller 12 when I got home and some Pappy 20 after dinner (turkey leftovers, of course) to finish off the evening.

Going to one of my bowling buddies house for our every other month couples get together. Munchies, food, deserts, and alcohol. They're JD drinkers. I know I'm gonna get all the JD bottlings, including Silver Select, thrown at me, so I'm taking some BTAC bourbons. 2007 GTS, 2007 WLW and 2008 ER. Let the fun begin. Joe

a little late, but I cracked the PVW23 for Thanksgiving. Shortly thereafter, I was giving thanks for the beautiful oak barrel that that housed this magnificent bourbon for all of those 23 years. Mmmmm.....yummy.

Found a partial-bottle of Ezra Brooks hidden in the forest of bottles on my bar. (When did I buy this one?) Anyway, it is no more.

Received a 50ml sample of '08 WLW. Fantastic. I now know what to look forward to when I can finally get my bottles at Christmas.

Had a late night jam session at an abandoned church tonight with only a communal bottle of JD to keep me warm -- my buddies were amazed that my nose wasn't frozen -- at least Jack is good for something!

Had fun at our friends house. Ate, played poker, and had a tasting of sorts. I could handle their JD Silver Select, but they couldn't handle my 2007 BTAC WLW, or 2008 BTAC ER. One buddy even said that he thought he'd never be a good bourbon drinker. Joe

I'm alternating between Old Weller Antique old fashioneds and St. George absinthe. If I'm not back in five minutes, just wait longer.

I'm drinking Very Old Barton BIB, which curiously is distilled at DSP-12 (presume that's the Barton plant) but bottled at DSP-24. No idea whose facility does the bottling.

This is an amazing whiskey; it has caramel, toffee, and vanilla but is not as assertive as most BIBs are. And don't get me wrong, that assertiveness is what I love about BIB bourbon, but the restraint of this one works to its advantage. It's very low-key, dignified, and charming. It is, for want of a better term, gentlemanly.

Wish I could try its brand stablemates, Kentucky Gentleman and Tom Moore. They are not carried at Binnys; I may have to shlep down to Sam's and see what they have.
