I'm planning a Pappy & Pizza night sometime around September Tym, so will let you know as it get closer. It'd be great to catch up again - it's been too long since we all got together!

Picked up one of the WT101 as they finally came on special.

A bit underwhelming coming from the 8 year. Hoping it opens up a little with some air time.

Was buying some beer when I noticed Devil's Cut pre-mix 330ml bottles in the store. Bought a 4 pack. Checked the back to see how much whisky was included in the mix and was a bit suprised to see that it contained 2% Devil's Cut and 12% Jim Beam (presumably white). How dodgy is that?

Had Scott (Hightower) and his family over for a BBQ on Saturday night. Did an impromptu bourbon cocktail list as follows:

Jim Beam Cherry White Chocolate Manhattan

15ml Sweet Vermouth

15ml White Chocolate Liquor

30ml Black Cherry

30ml Jim Beam Black

Dash Bitters

Stir until chilled, serve in chilled Manhattan glass.

Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey Jam Jar

45ml Jack Daniels Honey

15ml Lemon Juice

10ml diluted Honey (1:1)

8 Mint leaves

Shake well. Serve over ice in a Jam Jar or Lowball Glass over.

Liquid Bourbon Ball

60ml bourbon

30ml white chocolate liquor

7.5ml hazelnut liquor

Chocolate shavings

Pour over ice and stir. Strain into chilled glass. Top with chocolate shavings.

The Bourbon Shake

45ml bourbon

45ml chocolate liquor (cream based if possible)

5 mint leaves

3 scoops vanilla ice cream

Blend with a scoop of crushed ice. Serve in appropriate glass.

They were all good, but cocktail 1 & 4 were definately our favourites.

Finished off that great bottle of EC12, shame really, now I have to decide on whether to gamble another $60 odd dollars for another. Have been wanting to try the virgin bourbon again too as the last bottle was surprisingly nice too :)

Poured a few small samples while watching the AFL Final.... started with some Four Roses Single Barrel, then Very Old Barton 80 proof, Woodford Reserve Seasoned Oak and finished with some 04 Stagg.

Who won the game Cam? Back when ESPN was just getting started and before they televised the major american sport leagues they would show quite a bit of Australian football. I watched it often back then, I liked Brisbane, not sure why though.

On Saturday Sydney Swans won the AFL Grand Final, while on Sunday Melbourne Storm won the NRL Grand Final. Both were great games imo! :)

Anyone know if we're getting the White Rabbit bottling of JD?

I saw a White Label 37% bottling of JD on the shelf at Dan Murphys Wooloongabba store on the weekend... Is that what you mean?

Not 100% OT but I hope you will forgive me. I worked in Australia for a few months back a few years ago. I had a port-finished Jim Beam that I had never seen in the U.S. I actually liked it. Have any of you had it?

It's definately still available and continues to be our Knob Creek substitute in Beams Small Batch range. I'm not a big fan, but admit I haven't tried it in almost 5 years so probably should revisit it. I left that bottle in KY with one of our members in 2008.

Where abouts were you based when you were here?

I was in Alice Springs. Just a lovely country. I would love to take my family to Oz someday.

Nothing last night.... Am saving myself for a tasting get-together tonight with Scott (Hightower) and Tym (Stones). We'll be working our way through a selection of Van Winkle products:

10/107, Lot B, Pappy 15, Pappy 20, Pappy 23 (private barrel selection chill-filtered), ORVW 23 decanter and possibly finishing with some early 70's Old Fitz from S-W!

Kentucky Spirit will be there soon.

That's exciting news. Hopefully it won't cost us $200 a bottle! Any idea if we'll see it before Christmas?

Says coming soon on the website. $140 a bottle. I'd imagine within the next two weeks.
