It'a a nice and cool evening, which is gettin' me a hankerin' for rye tonight. Dangit, I almost forgot about this Toddy's/Liquor World Willett 5 yr Barrel Proof sitting back here on the bar. Very, very nice rye whiskey. LDI does some good work. I'm about 1/3 through the bottle, and I hardly can wait to get to the end, because I'm just now noticing a beautifully thick layer of char waiting for me at the bottom of the bottle. :yum: Can't wait to munch on it.

Thomas Handy, tonight.

It's a chilly night here, too. At least the wind isn't blowing like it had been for days.

Tonight I've been enjoying some Platte Valley corn whiskey followed by a nice pour of 2006 George T. Stagg.

Sitting in front of the outdoor fireplace with a pour of 2011 George T Stagg. Definitely, the huge...HUGE, whiskey we're used to from this brand. Still trying to glean out individual flavors. Looking for that cherry described earlier, and I think I get it, but then I get hit with a wave of other sensations. It may take a while for me to get a handle on this one. But, there's one thing I'm sure of at this point...Stagg continues to be the unchallenged King of Barrel Proof bourbons. IMO, no other distillery (or bottler), has put out any offering that can challenge any year of Stagg for flavor, complexity, and depth.

Strong words, Joe, and if I wasn't still working on a 2009 I might break the seal on the 2011.

Joe, do you drink it at barrel proof or do you bring it down some?

Watching the game and drinking some Benchmark SB. Of course the cork crumbled when I opened the bottle, but so far I am very impressed. Picking up lots of maple from this first pour.

After reading BourbonJoe's latest tasting results, I'm having some OWA 107 NAS. Mine is a bottle from Kenwood's and is damn good, especially for less than $20.

Just opened my Elijah Craig 18 year! Bottled on 3-28-1991. Odd thinking I was a few days away from turning 7 years old.

It was great neat, but a splash of water has turned it into something near perfect to my taste.

Enjoying a really nice 18 yo wheated Willett. Complex enough to have some interest but not so much that it's a chore. Really well-done wheat.

Had a friend over tonight for a small tasting. Started with Kahn's Elijah Craig 12 and ORVW 10/107, finished with BTEC 1991 rediscovered barrel. The BTEC is better with every pour.

4R SB LE 2011 and Jefferson's Rye while watching the Packers over the Vikings.

The Jefferson's Rye continues to disappoint.

Yep, my open bottle got the boot to the basement to be banished for some time. Was just taken up valuable space.

Willett Rye took it's place.......Much happier now.

Been eyeing that Willett Rye and may pick up a bottle for Thanksgiving, as my cousins are all on a rye kick these days.

I don't think you'll be disappointed.
