Started with WTRB, then '09 OFBB ( I have tried the '08,'09, and the '11 and they are all spicey rye goodness. smokinjoe Posted January 20, 2012 Share Posted January 20, 2012 Settling down with a small pour of BTEC "Fire Pot Barrel Aged". This bourbon tap dances across your tongue like Pop Rocks. Very spirity. I'm guessing from the fire dried barrels, picking up the tannins. You definitely know it's there. Interestingly though, there is no burn when you swallow this whiskey. bad_scientist Posted January 21, 2012 Share Posted January 21, 2012 Good to hear about the OFS - I have a bottle waiting in the wings to replace my HH BiB when it's gone.Had a BTEC 1991 and 2010 Saz 18 tonight. The BTEC 1991 was malty and amazingly free of any wood in taste. Its finish was full of nice, woody walnut, however, which was very pleasant.The Saz 18 was delicious, but a lot more piney than I remembered. I think it's just behind the Vintage 21 in ryes I've tried. Now it's the old faithful KCSB for video games with the wife. I liked the RB best, but it's such a comfort bourbon that I wonder if it was just my mood at the time, that RB might be an all occasion dram. What's your verdict? I'm trying to get her interested in a Bell's Batch 9000 or 2009 Victory Old Horizontal, or 2008 Dogfish Head Olde School Barleywine, anything high proof to even the odds! Hah, well... this is the third and last bottle I have of the 15. The other two are long gone. And I only have one bottle of the 20. I still can't believe I paid $100 for a bottle of bourbon. It's been a while since my last bottle, but I'm now wondering why I've waited. The nose is simply Heavenly. Sweetish, with a wonderfully doughy overtone to it. That carries over at it glides over my palate. One of the most drinkable whiskies I've ever had. The doughiness and sweetness hangs on in the end. Really good all the way through, but the nose...the nose...is simply spectacular. This will become a more frequent stop on my regular rotation, for sure. Also, the mouthfeel is seamless and glycerine-smooth.Best bottle I ever had of the brand. hectic1 Posted January 22, 2012 Share Posted January 22, 2012 I finally opened up the bottlings of 1789b OWA 8/107 #5 & #6 and they're incredible considering that they're $22 a bottle. #5 has that thick viscious "Louisville" mouthcoating with tons of caramel on the nose. The pallet has caramel, oak, hints of vanilla, and finishes with some spice. This bottle proves to me that BT is still capable of producing "Louisville" like bourbon it's just that you search to find it! #6 doesn't have the huge caramel nose that #5 has but it has a spicy vanilla bean note on it. The pallet isn't as mouthcoating as #5 either but it has more complexity as there is a good amount of vanilla, brown sugar, and spice on it. The finish on this one is long and spicy. Two very different bourbons and the best bottlings of OWA that I've had since the days of Louisville OWA! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
