A bit of Weller Centennial to celebrate the New York Rangers' game 7 victory this evening. Great hockey, great whiskey!

Happy Birthday, Hectic. I'm having RittBIB, along with some early 80's OGD 86pr.

Very nice selection! Did you find any of them stood out as being especially good?

That CnB OWA # 60 is my favorite of the Cork selections to date. I'm jealous of the OCPR SS. I've only had OCPR once, and it wasn't the SS, still excellent though.

All were excellent bourbons. The Bowman, BMH 21, ER 17 and the Old Fitz were among my faves. We had the OCPR too late in the evening to do it justice, but it is a fine pour as well. The Old Fitz was six years old and 86 proof. It had the best nose of the bunch. I would love to of had this at 100 proof. The flavors were great, but somewhat subdued by the extra water.

There was a point in the evening that we had that bottle in our hands. It almost got cracked. Going to break it out at next Saturday's tasting. If I can wait that long...

It's Mother's Day so I gave my wife a big pour of Blanton's. She doesn't like to drink alone so I was forced to pour one for me, too. That helped to salve the wound caused by my failure to get her a pound of dark chocolate. Even so, there was some nice dark chocolate in the Blanton's and besides I'll head to our favorite chocolatier as soon as they open in the morning. Her real gift, though, is a visit on Friday to BT and 4R distilleries. We've been before but she is always curious about what they are serving in the tasting rooms.

Day 3 - Old Grand Dad BiB mini - distilled fall '56, bottled spring '61. This was my mother's father's bourbon of choice, so a sort of Mother's Day tribute pour. Very sweet nose, lot of vanilla, something else - maybe butterscotch, flavor begins sweet but spice builds mid taste. Kind of a short finish at first, lingering warmness, but with each sip the finish gets longer. Not quite the mouthfeel of the older Old Taylors or the WT101 8y/o that I've recently tried, but still enjoyable.

Really enjoying a project pour right now. Old Crow soaked for five weeks in hickory chips. Different, but good.

While all of us married guys love our wives, I think many would fall for yours as well. Good find!

Celebrating Kuchar's TPC win with a pour of '09 Stagg.

Ditto, except my pour is FRSB-OBSK-TPS. This bottle just keeps getting better and better with rich spice, and burnt caramel notes and long long finish. Looks like I'll be ordering another one soon.

As an ex-Boeing employee, I gotta ask: what is the "Boeing bottle"?

Congratulations! I hope to be in your shoes (well, the first part, anyway) a year from now.

Celebrating nothing in particular with pours of ORVW 10/107 and Wheated Wonderland (my name for the 7-wheater vatting invented by Bmac).

Nice. I find myself in a similar position (graduating at 23 and looking down the barrel of a year on a $13,000 masters fellowship stipend) and celebrating with some OGD 114, which is about as rich as my young poor blood can handle.

I am really kicking myself for having never tried this stuff before. So full-bodied and rye-spicy-savory and well balanced between that mild orange-like sweetness and oak - and all for $22.50.

Started with a pour of Pappy 20 tonight...I've had this pour about 3 times in the last year and while it's a really nice pour it's not the clouds parting with Zeus throwing a lightning bolt at me like some people make it out to be. It's a very nice SW bottling that shows a fair amout of complexity but leaves something to be desired on the finish. I think I understand why they bottle this at 90pr though as I think at 107 the wood might not be as controlled as it is at 90pr. At 90pr this is pushing the range of wood influence that I find enjoyable.

I moved onto some WTKS Pewter Top from 5/23/01 that Rod found in KY. Doug had a bottle of this at his house during the sampler and a few of us tried it while we were raiding his bunker for a Turkey hunt! I really enjoy this bottling...probably one of the better WTKS's that I've had the pleasure of drinking. I do have to admit...when you find a "good" bottle of this stuff it's really really good!
