Today, I'm laying to rest one that I shall not miss or replace...an Old Scout pvt barrel from about this time last year I purchased at a local outfit. At $37, 7yo and 120 proof, I viewed it as an economically viable alternative to GTS. After a year of struggling with what is going on inside this bottle, I'm putting it to rest as an eggnog mixer. It was one of the few bourbons I've had that just deteriorated noticeably as the contents shrank. Even my wife, who usually ranks all bourbons the same: "too strong, too harsh, too bitter...:deadhorse:", found it "a lot worse than the 'others' ". And that was after working it down with water to about 80-90 proof. I tried it neat and at all ranges in between 80 & 120, and it just got worse as time went by.

I drank a ton of bourbon on Saturday and I don't know if it was just the order of operations, but by the time we got to the Birthday Bourbon it was the most amazing thing we drank.

Anyway, polished off a Yellow Label. Need to start getting this by the handle. I appreciate this stuff so much more now having had and coming to understand some delicious single barrels lately. Only 80 proofer I always keep a bottle of.

It took some time, but by the end she took me back and reminded me why I actually liked her more than the 125th.

The devil's got ahold of him. He's drunk and speaking in tongues. He's gonna be so embarrassed tomorrow.

Spent last weekend in the mountains and killed off a Lot B and a HW Campfire. Made a serious dent in a 2011 THH too.

Been trying to clear off the shelves recently: FRSB, OGD114, Baker's, Ritt BIB, Dickel Rye, and Rendezvous Rye were cleared out in the past week or so.

HW Double Rye, with a few more bottles in striking distance of empty to re-set in the new year.

That is some serious depleting inventory. Bakers has never tasted quite right to me but the others are some of my favorites and are open on the bar.

That's my issue with keeping bar space clear. Those are all my favorites too, and likely to be replaced sooner rather than later.

Just got rid of an EWSB and an Old Forester Single Barrel private selection. Next up (probably tonight) will be my Buffalo Trace.

A few more for the recycle bin, and/or….

ORVW 10/107

Bowman Brothers Small Batch

JW Dant BIB 200 ml

Old Tub 375 ml

Weller 12

1985 ND OGD 86 proof

GBS ETL

HH 6 yr BIB X2

I had some help with a few of these. Even though we're not bowling this year, our team still gets together once a month. One of the HH 6 yr BIB's was "donated" to the team bourbon pool. A few nice sized samples were shared with other members, which also helped prompt the emptying of a few of these.

Cheers! Joe
