I think my first PVW15 was in the high 30's and it was always on the shelf. sob.

And Husk has repriced their PVW's. Only $75 for a pour of the 23.

New Husk Prices

Amazed and proud of the lobbying power of SBForum. Props to the Van Winkles and Husk on this change.

I guess it's a step in the right direction. I have attached a picture of a page out of the bourbon menu from the bar down the street from me for comparison. The picture was taken 9/29/12.

How do you know it had anything to do with SB or an interaction with the Van Winkles?

Guess I just assumed. I think it has to be related to SB given the timing.

The PVW15 is how much beer costs in NYC

Well I would not be drinking there. The prices are above my I'll pay no more than 25% of cost the bottle for a drink rule. I did see one exception, the have Saz 18 for $18, which is half the price of Stagg or WLW and harder to find.

The timing of PVW being taken off the menu immediately after the criticism here surfaced, and then it showing up again at a lower price, leads me to the same conclusion.

The word is being spread and the message is clear. Drinkers of the World unite, you have nothing to lose but high prices.

I would assume the supply was running low, causing them to jack up the prices to ensure they could keep it available. Then when the supply level got dire, they took it off the menu to keep it around only for VIPs. When the supply was replenished he put it back on.

Is it more feasible than a restaurateur worrying about the "public backlash" from an internet forum?

I'm not so sure ... a couple of clowns over at MM ended up caring about public backlash from the internet. It would have been pretty hard for Julian to defend Sean Brock.

Not a fair comparison, but my original point was that we shouldn't be taking credit. It's just speculation at best, and projection at worst.

Someone should just call Husk and ask. Maybe they will be forthcoming as to why they took it off the menu then added back on at a lower price.

On a completely unrelated note to all this Husk drama. I recently donated a bottle of Lot B to a charity's silent auction. I think a got the bottle a few years ago for around $50 and it went for $250, with a few people getting into a serious bidding war over it. I talked to the guy who ended up buying it, and he at least knew how much he had overpaid by since he had paid $43 for a bottle just a few months prior. I didnt have the heart to tell him W12 goes for around $22 around here. At least it all went to a good cause

So I haven't hunted or tried to bunker up since 2009 unless someone approach me. So today, I finally drove out to a couple of my secret spots to see what I can find and hoping I can at least add some Lot B as that is my daily pour and any others that I can find would be nice. Nothing to be found but saw a bottle of PVW20 for $199!! My goodness, these are spots that had consistently sell bottles at MSRP or less for years but looks like the price has gone up a lot.

I drove away since I had many bottles bunker up.

.

.

.

Not too happy about myself, I went back and bought it since this is one of my favorite pour and is always open at my bar. It make me smile thinking of drinking it and having more bunker up to last. Maybe if I average out the cost per bottles in my bunker, I feel a little better.

Cheers

Hugh

I donated a pvw 2009 15 yr to a charity auction. It brought 500. Was a nice little tax deduction.

Well so much for no spring release...passed on 10, 12, 15, 20, and 23 today at MSRP. Did grab two VWFRRs, however.
