Tasting notes on the Old Scout? Or at least would you buy again?

When I first opened the bottle I wasn't overly impressed, but as I went through it, it really grew on me. Not the greatest at notes, but it has a very sweet nose to it, but you can certainly pick up some of the rye notes in the nose. It has a very sweet entry, dries a bit with some oak flavors before the rye content comes forward and lasts through the finish. Almost burns the tongue. Mouthfeel leaves a little to be desired, but I think I would definitely buy it again. It's kind of similar to a few of the 4R OBSKs I've had but maybe a little softer on entry until the rye takes over your tongue midway through the sip.

Hope that makes some kind of sense for you.

Finally found a use for my waste of $120, started with a mingling of EC BP, EC 12 and EC 20, worked quite well, I plan on finshing the EC 20 this way. Then moved on to EW BIB, ETL and now Charter 101.

Any feedback on the Corsair Triple Smoke that you could share. I see it every once in a while, but always choose something else. Would really like to know your opinion. Thanks.

these were the notes i wrote down when i first tasted it-

nose- peat smoke and cherry up are prevalent, malty.

taste- light in the mouth, barley sweetness. even though the mouth feel is light, the cherry and peat smoke builds towards the end of the sip. the beechwood smoke flavor bounces in and out giving a nod towards the smoky flavor of artisanal bacon.

finish- peat and cherry

i like it a lot. it's a very good pour to switch up from bourbon. it's not scotch but it's not trying to be.

If I am able to acquire any EC BP then I may have to try something like this to see if my EC20 mistake can be put to use. Really don't enjoy it as is.

The end to an absolutely spectacular week. In baseball terms, I went 21 for 30, 5 dingers, 20 Ribbies, and heck....stole 6 bases. Not to mention, ESPN "Web Gems" 5 times. :D So, it's 5:00 and I'm toasting the week behind, and the weekend ahead, with my all-time favorite whiskey, from my favorite distillery...a 2012 PHC.

A friend and I opened bottles of JPR 18, ER 17 and GTS. 1st time trying any of the BTAC! Loved the JPR & ER - the Stagg I left for the friend to finish. Not my cuppa I guess. The nose on the JPR was one of the most impressive I've had the pleasure to try.

The boss poured me a lil 1999 pappy 20 for lunch, pretty much heaven in a glass.

Enjoying some EC12BP, and it is everything I hoped it would be :yum: The non-chill filtering is very evident - clouded up more than anything else I've ever owned, but still was lovely (not that it wasn't nice neat)

I was reminded by Youngblacksmith in another thread about one of my dusty faves...a Distilled 1964/Bottled 1971 Old Charter 7yr BIB, and I realized it has been some time since I visited that bottle. Where the heck has this puppy been hiding? Sipping on it now, I remember why I love it. Huge, huge, spiced corn husk from nose to palate. But, it's not a raw taste. Rather, it's like it's been baked...Tastes bolder and even bigger than its 100 proof. Oily, viscous, and thick. The finish is full of an oak and tanned leather. Just, a gorgeous whiskey. A prime example of a bourbon whiskey from an era that is just...different than today. The embossed bottle, with satin ribbon, and old-timey label is a great presentation, as well.

The weather has started to turn for the better here in Ohio. So, a little bit of one of my favorite warm weather drinks. Mellow Corn. Its almost time to refrigerate my other favorite, HH BIB white label.

I poured a couple oz of Old Taylor to start the night, but half way through I added some Rendezvous Rye to the glass-- nice combo.

The buttery smooth OT took the edge off the sharp rye flavor of the RR.

Went with a blend tonight. Maybe a 1/2 ounce of EWSB 02 left in the bottle, and decided to toss in some OFBB 12 to round it out the Glencairn.

Not a bad combination if I do say so.
