Earlier today during the Ravens/Browns game I had Sierra Nevada Flipside Red IPA. Another solid seasonal IPA from SN, and my team's win was nice too.

Goose Island has stepped in with a tasty new Oktoberfest to fill the void of tasty, fairly priced kinda-macro-craft-ish fall lager. It bested the seasonal offerings from Berghoff and Left Hand that I drank it against yesterday.

Steve, is the GI Octoberfest a replacement for the Harvest Ale? Or, an addition?

Thanks.

which brings me back to something I've said since I moved to Utah: too bad I can't get Goose Island in Utah. I loved me some Goose Island and Great Lakes when living in Ohio.

Good question -- according to the GI website, Harvest Ale is still being released this fall, and a thread on Beer Advocate indicates that both Harvest and Oktoberfest are out there in fresh form. I'm not a big GI drinker outside of Bourbon County, so you may need to trust but verify.

Southern Tier Pumking. FINALLY. This is the one so far. The nose is more graham cracker crust than pumpkin. Not the least bit cloying. Good spice and hides its alcohol well. Very nice!

Bells Sparkling, Jolly Pumpkin Luciérnaga, and the clear winner, a Prairie Hop. Good gawd man why is this stuff so hard to find. Thanks Dan!

Having my first Stone R and R Coconut IPA. Pretty good, but not getting a lot of the coconut.

I tried this for the first time today, too. Maybe, a smidge of the coconut on tongue late in the finish. Probably, imagining it more than anything else. I do like this beer, though. Very creamy with nice body, and rounds off the sharpness of the hops quite well. I'd have to say that I would buy another.

The hop was amazing.

FYI dark horse 4 elf is in ky now. It was previously only available at the brewery.

Expecting ours Thursday along with more evil twin imperial biscotti break and others.

Like Dark Horse but what is the 4 Elf? Their Winter beer, I take it? I'm still working through all the pumpkins!!!

I tried KY ales pumpkin barrel ale. It tastes like the regular bourbon barrel ale but with some pumpkin pie spiced added.

Not bad but a bit too sweet to consume more than one.

2011 Schlafly Reserve Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels. Pretty rich stuff.

I had one of the best IPAs I've ever tired at the Sampler this year, a Double Crooked Tree. I searched high and low (drinking plenty of other amazing beers in the process) and finally found some in Frankfort during the KBF. Poured the first of my stash this evening and it's as good as I remember.

The Double Crooked Tree is a pretty good beer, but around here you never know what to expect since they don't bottle date the stuff (unless that's changed recently). I try not to buy anything hoppy that isn't dated.

I've had a few IPA style beers that aged well, but they have to be 10% at least. Kind of like old Islay scotch that loses it's peaty and smoky roar, but develops something more fruity and delicate. I had an Avery Maharaja that was probably 18 months old last month and thought it was amazing.

With that said, I didn't see any bottling information anywhere. I got them at Red Dot and if the scarcity around the rest of the stores that I shopped means anything I would assume these haven't been sitting on the shelves (at retailers anyway) for very long.
