Purchased a November 2006 bottling of Weller 12 year. Notice the color difference in this bottling compared to the bottle on the left which is a bunkered 2011 bottle. Very surprised how dark this bourbon is being only 90 proof. I believe mid 2006 is when BT started rolling out the new tear drop bottle. Also note that this bottle is about 1/2 inch taller than the current bottle which has a fatter neck (1.75 liter size). I did a full comparison between the two and let me tell you, they are very different considering they are the same label. The 2006 blows the current offering out of the water. So much richer on the nose, has more dryness on the palate like an older wheater, and a very long finish. I wonder if BT was using older juice for this bottling and pulling from Bernheim stock??

Smknjoe set met up with location of some dusty old charter 12 and dusty charter 8. I found some ecbp one morning and immediately contacted him to give him heads up so he could grab a bottle too. Felt great to help another brother out to pay him back for his tips to me. I'd rather make friends than have everything in the store.

How does one tell the year a Weller 12 was bottled? I know that embossed wheat on the shoulder of the bell-shaped bottle means it's relatively older, but where did you get the year from? Is there a bottle code I'm missing? I know where there are a few embossed wheat bottles, and I'll happily bunker up if I know they are from a few years ago.

Yes, there is the same bottle code found on these bottles as the Pappy line and BTAC. Be careful with the embossed wheat as a good indicator though. I am seeing Weller 12 (1 liter size) at a big box store that has to restock daily with the embossed wheat. I really doubt this is an old bottling, but then again I haven't checked to confirm that either. The laser code will be your best indicator.

i was pissed that although it was there and i was there and i had cash to hand them for it, i wasnt allowed to have it because some asswipe reserved it over the phone. i mean, really!? i would not do business like that.

and why didn't you call the store ahead of time to confirm it was there and put it on hold yourself?

Did you consider that maybe that "a**wipe" is a regular of that store and they gladly satisfy him/her for being a good customer?

if he was a regular, he'd have been there far more often than i, and wouldve grabbed it then. i frequent this place too.

their stock showed one available and is updated daily. i was there on store opening. if it was "on hold" it shouldve been removed from online view. I bet they will have 20 people come in there on the same principle as I, who will all leave pissed off. now, you tell me thats a good way to do business....

now, if i had gotten there and asked about it and was told they jad just sold it 2 minutes ago, id be bummed but id bo okay with that. early bird gets the worm, right? but to be told no because some, and i will say it again, a##wipe reserved it over the phone.....thats BS

I don't get it. I call and hold stuff all of the time to make sure I get it before it's gone. And I can even pay for it over the phone. How is that unfair when you can do the same thing? It's the smart thing to do. Especially, when we are talking about something that is so hard to find and tends to disapear quickly.

Try JAX in Cumming they had some sitting on the shelf last time I was there.

Yes I think so. I picked up 2 for a buddy as well so I had the box they came in. Said box 002 of 071 Wave 18.

Do you know which barrel it is? We had the scotch barrel aged Barleywine it was fantastic.

These are the whiskey barrels. Don't know if there's any way to narrow it down beyond that.
