What did you pass up today? Summer '13

I passed on some Balcones Rumble for about $50. I know some folks on here like it and maybe even mentioned wanting help locating some. If that's correct and my recollection is right, let me know and I'll point you in the right direction.

I think most folks like/want the cask strength version but could be wrong. You did the right thing passing on the regular IMO.

After the tepid reviews/opinions (I pretty much expected such) expressed in a thread I started a few days ago, I have decided to pass up both Calumet Farms Bourbon (one of y'all suggested it may contain a piece of actual racehorse! ...great comment!) and Lexington Bourbon. Both are expressions of apparently pretty ordinary, fairly young Bourbon done for NDP's and sold at moderately high, to very high, prices ($50 for the CF, $28 for the Lex).

I'm still on the fence about the "Forgiven" being marketed by WT. (A supposedly accidental mingling of Straight Rye with WT Bourbon.) They're asking $51 for a 750 around my area for it. Without someone who's tasted it saying it's at least unique or different enough to warrant the high freight, I'm pretty hesitant.

Anybody with a review of "Forgiven"?

If I were in a frame of mind to buy Forgiven I would still wait for some first person impressions. Doubt we'll have to wait long, somebody will buy it, somebody always does.

We had the Forgiven on the porch a week ago when the WT rep visited. All of us gave it a thumbs up. We were sharing a bottle provided by the rep. If $51 is the price .. that's priced above a few brands I would reach for first at that level. The number of new intros coming in at $40+ are disturbing .. and I think it's going to only help those great old stand bys in the neighborhood of $30 or even less. WT has some good stuff on the way in the next month or so.

Passed on a PHC blend of Mashbills for 119.99. Also a WT Tradition 14 for 99.99. Another WT American Spirit for 146.99 & a HW 21 for 138.99. I did pick up a 2010 FR LE SmB. :-)

Passed on some Wild Turkey 80 proof both in the 1.75 L and 1 L sizes. They also had some 101 with the old label.

Saw some WT Forgiven twice today. Had a distributor that was at the store try and tell me it was awesome, told him $50 for 4 - 6 year old product with a funny story was a joke and he got quiet and didn't disagree.

Saw a Hirsh 28yo Bourbon for a king's ransom.

How about a showdown? Eagle Rare for $36, Bulleit 10yo for $42 or FRSB for $45?

Passed up some Old Charter 10 year (43%), usually only see the 8 yr in New Mexico. I also passed up some handles of 80 proof Wild turkey with gold labels, not sure how dusty those are, would have snapped them right up if 101's. Finally I saw a very dusty and neglected bottle of Wild Turkey tradition for $120. I wasn't very tempted at that price especially since the same store had three bottles of EJBP (not passed up)!

$50 for ER is crazy. You should be able to get a 1.75L for just a bit more than that!

3 bottles of PHC cognac at $80. Not that I thought this was a bad price its just that I don't really care for this bottling. Left them for others that truly enjoy this unique finish.

Curious to where this was in ky. We haven't received baby saz in a long time. Wonder if more is coming or if they have had it a while.

Louisville, smaller shop the first day....large format store a day later. Has to be new shipment, i'm in the large format store every few weeks and hadn't seen in ages. Good news was no apparent price spike. Was @ $26.

I passed on a 2001 Weller 19. I hear that particular year is very woody, extremely bitter, and fairly dense. Though I have also heard it does manage to beat some of the recent OWA single barrel picks which have been rated well below average - it must be one hectic time trying to dump those particular duds.
