T Comp
Though close to it while on vacation here, I will pass on the Manhattans in the Mountains event today, advertised as custom cocktails from Makers 46 at the Beaver Creek (CO) Wine & Sprits Festival for $40 between 3PM and 6PM. theglobalguy
HW 21 Rye @$125 sitting next to James E Pepper Rye 15yr @$169. Hmmmm, let me think which one looks like the better value. Skipped both since i've never tried older aged Rye and would rather pay for a pour at a bar than take that leap just yet.
Old Dusty
HW 21 Rye @$125 sitting next to James E Pepper Rye 15yr @$169. Hmmmm, let me think which one looks like the better value. Skipped both since i've never tried older aged Rye and would rather pay for a pour at a bar than take that leap just yet.if you can find them all of the higher aged ryes are north of $125. Some substantially so. I last saw the HW21 at $138 so truthfully that is not a bad price for something that will be gone shortly.Edit-higher aged being anything w a 20 number. You may get lucky w a Saz18 , Michter's10 or VWFRR under $100. Edited August 9, 2013 by Old Dusty
tanstaafl2
Was that one of the first stores to see the Ritt BIB DSP-1? When I drove out there to pick that up a few weeks ago, the guy was talking up their BT single barrel/private barrel pick (but I had the same issue - not knowing who picked, and not needing any more BT at the moment). That was the first private/single barrel BT I'd ever seen (same thing being in a handle!)Wasn't the first place I saw Ritt DSP-1. Not sure if they have it yet as I didn't look this last trip. The BT SB I saw was at Toco Giant.

mbroo5880i
It sounds like more than a few of us are passing on the standard stuff right now and saving our money for some newer releases that are expected out soon. Meanwhile, I am enjoying whittling down my bunker a little.

squire
Why do the women insist on talking about our shopping as if it's superfluous whereas theirs is somehow necessary.
GaryT
Why do the women insist on talking about our shopping as if it's superfluous whereas theirs is somehow necessary. Her new argument is "The crap I buy we can resell once I'm done enjoying it, and get something for it - sometimes as much as I paid for it. You drink that damn whiskey, so that is completely different!" I'm taking this as "I need to sell the crap she buys to buy my whiskey" . . . but I've misinterpreted these things before
TunnelTiger
All these years she has been telling me that I don't understand why she needs 50 pocketbooks and a 100 pair of shoes but me having 35 bottles of Bourbon is wrong. WTF :hot:

GaryT
I donated platelets earlier, so I'll have to make up for lost time tomorrow. In the mean time, I just nod and say "Yes dear", which has gotten me by this far

GaryT
Passed on miniature Old Fitzgerald on Ebay for $13.00 Good or bad decision?TedDepends on how much you either want to taste old Old Fitz, or like (if you've already had) old Old Fitz. $13 on a 50ml values a 750mL at about $200. Then again - you can pay $13 at a local watering hole and wind up a whole lot worse off than that Old Fitz. I probably would pass, only because I wouldn't want to know how much I like what I can't have.
compliance
ebay minis were one of the great ways to try old bourbons on the cheap. 70's Fitz for the price of a drink in a bar? Yes please. The big bottles got crazy and I wasn't buying them anyway, but I do miss the minis. I still have some OF, Michters, Cabin Still, and Old Crow left.
