What Bourbon did you purchase today? Summer 2014

on the trip across, when I stopped in kentucky, I picked up bottles of HH gold BIB, HH 6yo 90 proof, hh ultra deluxe, j.t. samuels BIB, VOB BIB, early times 354, HH Wht BIB, EW BIB, Ancient Age 90, and possibly a couple others..

I didn't find everything I thought I wanted, but there was plenty of interesting options.

Two bottles of Willet 2 year Old Rye. First juice distilled/produced by Willet in 40 years. If anyone is looking for one in DC, as of 6pm, there was one bottle left at Batch 13 on 14th street.

Is it worth the $50-60 that you paid?

I brought home 2 ECBP batch 5's, another 4R private selection OBSK just because, and a 375ml of WT101 to stash in my luggage for an upcoming work trip to a project site deep in the back country. Need something to sip on in the cabin.

I bought two bottles of Old Grand Dad 114.. A few months ago I saw them in a liquor store that is kinda out of the way for me.. I stopped there a few months ago to see if they had anything interesting.. I noticed the two bottles of OGD 114. So today I thought I would take a drive and see if they still had them.. Sure enough they did and now they are in my cabinet..I recall liking the higher rye spice years ago.. Looking forward to a revisit this coming week.. Creggor

I was pleasantly surprised when I first tried EH Taylor SmB. Saw the single barrel yesterday, a bit pricey at around $80 but took the plunge. The store owner also showed me a bottle of the Elmer Single Barrel, which i thought was available to purchase. It wasn't though, he was just showing it off...rolled with the EH Taylor SB instead. :crazy:

Finally picked up a Rhetoric, $89.50 is the lowest price I've seen locally so I went for it.

Found another bottle of Four Roses 2013 LE Small Batch. Picked up an order of three EC12 store select single barrels. And had in possession a Bevmo OBSK private selection however later discovered a crack in the bottle so back it went to Bevmo.

Found a bottle of Stagg Jr 134.4 proof at Winn Dixie liquor store in Winter Springs FL @ $51.99 & couldn't resist.

It was the last one on the shelf.

Purchased a Buffalo Trace private selection and a Four Roses Single Barrel private selection (100 proof). Guy does a good job picking - I always like his better than the original when I do SBS.

Actually they were $45 each. And no, this 2 year old Rye is not worth $45. Is it nicely done? It is. It's not harsh and young like I was expecting. The palate has more depth than other young whiskey's I've tried. I would almost characterize it is as refined (considering its age). I bought them because its fun to try new stuff from a popular, well-regarded producer.

In any event, I think Batch 13 may have lowered prices across the board to be honest. Some of the bottles were still higher than I'd pay, but I know my prices pretty well, and some were actually average.

Steve, Isn't "just because" about the best reason to buy bourbon! :cool: My fave FR is OBSV, regular or BP, but OBSK is so awesome! It doesn't get much better than sitting out on a lake, in the woods or mountains and sipping an awesome whiskey.

2 bottles of a fine EWSB collecting dust in a small town redneck wines n spirits near me that has way better selection of bourbon than is fitting of the town its in.My bunker filling store thats filled my RR the past month one at a time.

"Just because" is by far the best reason to buy bourbon! It means that you aren't desperate because you've been chasing a limited release or something allocated or something you're not even sure you like (see Fox and ECBP) where you feel pressure to buy it now or miss your chance. It means that you have the luxury to buy something you know you like without the competition associated with the limiteds. I'm pretty sure this is a component of bourbon zen!

yeah, I learned that lesson well. Havent chased a single thing since....unless you count going around any buying up all the Dickel 9 in louisville last fall, fearing it would be a one time thing, but I knew I liked that when I did it.

FWIW, I think running around buying up all of a reasonably priced whiskey that you know you like makes a lot more sense than what I was doing.

I picked up a bottle of EWSB'04 and a bottle of Ancient Age just for the heck of it. When I worked a liquor decades ago, we had some older customers who bought AA regularly. I've never tried it.
