Woo-Wooo! Lucky You! Up here in Michigan a single bottle of ANY ONE of the BTAC is a reason to celebrate. Here's hoping the rest of your order comes thru. Cheers! Enjoy some fine Bourbons.

I'm celebrating right now. I just got a call from my local shop telling me they reached my name on "the list". He asked me what Van Winkle bottle I wanted. I asked for the 15 year but then he told me they only had the 10 and Lot B. Then he shared they also had GTS so I claimed it. I pick it up tomorrow. I thought I was going to be iced out this year.

Very nice. Congrats. Out of curiosity what did you grab the 10 or the Lot B?

The guy would only let me have one bottle. His shop wants to share the wealth. I'm cool with that. I would have taken the Lot B if the GTS wasn't available. I'll see if I can't schmooze another bottle out of them tomorrow when I visit.

I picked up a GTS the other day. The person at the register rung it up for $42.99 (plus tax). I told him that must be the sale price for Stagg Jr. He said that's the price for my bottle. I reiterated that, as much as I liked that price, it couldn't be correct. After further checking, he realized that the GTS inventory had not yet been placed in the computer since it recently arrived. He corrected the price to $79.99 (plus tax).

You did the right thing. I always try to correct sales persons when I realize an item has been mispriced. Even at $79.99, you got the MSRP which is a rarity these days. Kudos for doing the right thing! Enjoy your bottle. I hear this year's GTS is very good!

Your GTS will taste a little better after being on the up-and-up. Nice job! Enjoy!

Props for doing the right thing. What would have happened if you took it off the shelf that had it labeled as $999.00?

He could still say the same thing and go through the same sequence but the ending won't be as good. :)

Happy ending all around, very nice.

Cheers

Mrs Tot got gouged for one Stagg. $150.

Oh well. One Stagg this year is better than none. Maybe next year I'll not be offshore for BTAC season.

One way or another, 2015 will see me frequenting a new set of stores.

If I am hunting for it which I'm not actively now a days, this would be the maximum I would pay as well so I think she did fine.

Cheers

Yes, she did fantastic. But it's the first time ever that that store has gone even a cent over MSRP, so it caught me by unpleasant surprise.

Also, it wasn't just the stagg - they also added $150 to the price of a PVW23.

I wouldn't have paid that much normally, but now that it's all done, I'll just keep the stuff and call it a very tasty lesson.

Agreed, not hunting for it either but I'd pay $150 too. It's not going to be less expensive next year. No how no way.

Hugh, there is a spot somewhat close to you where you can get BTAC for just $300

hahaha. thanks, I'm heading there now. j/k

If that's the one in SF, that's the spot years ago, I left a whole shelf full of PVW at MSRP and just bought a fraction of what they had. Over time, there prices keep going up so now when they call, I just politely deflect.

I actually have stop shopping around since last year and only buy everything from one spot.

Decided to take a little ride in the country today and went by the Virginia ABC store in Middleburg since in the past they seem to have a lot show up there and some not claimed. Not the case this year all is claimed so I asked about getting on the list for their location and was told they won't even consider opening to new orders until 2016. We are living in crazy bourbon times!!!

Just had my first pour of GTS 2014. Pretty good. Nice and deep flavor. Fairly well rounded. Some very slight bitter after note. Maybe just because it's the first pour.

Do like it. Going for my second now. Hahaha this time with a splash of water instead.

Will definitely need to spend more time with it.

Perhaps, I'll do a SBS with 2013 and 2012 but now a days I just drink each bottle for what it is; either I like it or not. Just going through a phase. Previous phase was SBS everything since that's the only way to really compare and pick out the differences while my wife look at me wondering what's wrong with this guy. :)

I really like this year's Stagg after not caring for last year's at all. I think the 2014 is more balanced than the last couple of years.

Flew up to Illinois on Friday to visit the mother-in-law. Drove out to Binnys on Saturday and picked up a few bottles, mostly for a buddy, but got myself a PHC and a 7yo Old Scout. Spent about $650. They had a Scotch I thought the buddy might want, but wasn't sure. He let me know later he really did want the scotch ( Dalmore Castle Leod). So I ran back out there this morning. They remembered me from Saturday and told me they were sorry they didn't get their PVW allocation before I had to head back to TX, but they did find a bottle of GTS in the back. So glad my buddy wanted that scotch.

Excellent. Glad to see you rewarded for your efforts. I cracked my GTS 14 on Saturday and was definitely impressed. It is a notch ahead of the 13 but, not quite on par with the 12. Regardless, it is an excellent vintage and something I am sure you will enjoy.

Still waiting for it to land in NYC (at least I hope so) Would appreciate if any other New Yorkers would post when it comes to town in case I'm not shopping that day lol. I'll definitely do the same.

There's a huge to do on one of the FB groups about how the 2014 GTS bottles that have black ink on them are different from the ones with gold ink. Conspiracy theories so far include the black ink being a top sekrit single barrel or that it was bottled earlier so there was less barrel char floaties and therefore somehow better. The idea that maybe the gold pens were out of ink and black was all they had was immediately discarded as being ridiculous.
