VT Mike
I picked up an Elmer T Lee for $30 today. I grabbed a second one for a friend who has been looking for it for a while. Left 2 on the shelf for the next guy.
KJND
Sho nuff. Space is at a premium right now due to my collection of barrel aged stouts, but that price is stupid cheap so I may grab one tomorrow if the deal is still onI don't even like Woodford but for $12 there sure would have been a few in the cart! Thig
Bought a 1792 Port Finish Bourbon, I like it, for $40 I would probably buy it again. I have certainly had worse for more money.

DonutsNBourbon
For the second time in my life, and the second year in a row, I've participated in a Black Friday event. At a liquor store, of course. Last year my buddy and I got there about an hour before the doors opened, and were roughly 25th or so in line. Not good enough to get a VW or BTAC, but I snared a 4RSmBLE and he got a Parker's Heritage. Hanging out in line with a bunch of fellow bourbon fans, it was kind of fun, we could wait indoors (liquor store attached to a big grocery store), and it was all good. This year was the second year this store has done it. I figured since word was out it would be a bit busier. So my buddy and I show up a little more than 2 hours early. Saw about half a dozen guys milling around the liquor store entrance when I got there, and thought, wow, coming an hour earlier was definitely worth it, I'm going to be able to get a really good bottle (was hoping for a GTS). Then I saw the tents. I don't know how many people camped out overnight, but the line actually snaked around the corner of the building.Figured out I would be roughly 50th in line. The list was posted on the door - about 70 bottles total, with 19 VW products (everything from 6 ORVW's/Lot B's to one 23 year), 7 BTAC's (no Saz18) 2 4R SmBLE's and 3 OFBB's. All of it close to MSRP. Some other good stuff too, but I figured we'd never get the ones I listed, which were what I was most interested in. My buddy and I decided to bag it go find a spot for breakfast. Had breakfast, stopped back at the store on the way back, about an hour later, and checked to see what the line looked like. Only about 12-15 more people, so we decided to give it a shot. Turns out they were also doing a Goose Island Bourbon Barrel Stout release, and almost everyone who got in the line in the last hour was there for beer, so we really weren't in any worse shape than an hour before in terms of getting whiskey, and had a chance to eat breakfast and take a load off our feet for an hour.Went through the line, I got their one and only ECBP. My buddy grabbed a Weller 12 (not seen much around here, he'd never had it, they had 8 bottles). Went through the line again and we both picked up Michter's Toasted Barrel. At that point about all that was left was 2 EC23's, a couple WT Masters Keep and multiple bottles of Barterhouse and Rhetoric. Even the lone Blood Oath got snapped up. Then got in the beer line and got 2 bottles of the Bourbon County Stout. So, all in all, not a bad deal, but it shows how crazy the bourbon world has gotten that people were willing to camp out overnight in late November Wisconsin weather just for a shot at a VW or BTAC.that's crazy! my buddy that lives in Madison was talking about having me drive up to Madison thanksgiving night and camping out with him to get some pappy (probably the same store you're talking about)... kinda glad we didn't since we lucked out on some other sources. I've never camped out for anything so that would've been pretty crazy for me.

I've never camped out for anything so that would've been pretty crazy for me.I camped out for world series tickets in 2004. There was a certain appeal to the experience. Sort of like an extended tail gating party. I think the people who enjoy the experience of camping out sell out things to camp out for.Just my random thoughts. I did get the tickets, and got to see the red Sox take home their first world series victory in 86 years with my dad...in the most boring game I've ever seen against the team I was rooting for, the Cardinals, after Boston eliminated my dad's favorite team, the Yankees. .. Quintilian
Yesterday I got intrigued with price point and having never tried a certain bourbon. At one of the stores, I kept looking at a Texas fifth of Old Crow Special Reserve and its price. I thought to myself, "Even if it not that great, you can use it for mixing." The "Dirty Bird" isn't horrible ~ caramel, some cinnamon, and an not-so-satisfying finish. With all that said, I think I might like it better than JBW. Not high praise, but I wonder if BeamSuntory ever wanted to promote Dr. Crow's stuff, they could amp the age to 8 years old to make it "super special reserve." Or call it an 8 year old "single barrel."
Fort Knox
2 "firsts" for me: My first bottle of rye and my first bottle of RHF, to go along with a bottle of Stagg, Jr. Batch 5 and 2 ETL's to replenish my supply that was down to the last couple of pours. These were all the result of my trip down to see my brother in Hilton Head over Thanksgiving. I hit 3 stores in Hilton Head on Black Friday and all I bought was the SAOS Rye, passing on overpriced CEHTSmB, Blanton's, and SAOS10. I almost bought the SAOS10, but I honestly prefer SAOS7 or SAOS8, which is fairly readily available here in Durham without the $10 premium. Now...if I'd found some SAOS BP, all bets would be off. So, I was worried I'd be going home without much new treasure, but I also knew I'd be hitting a couple of stores in Savannah the next day. The first place we hit in Savannah, I thought it was more of the same. They did have some old-label EC12, but it was $35, so I was ready to just walk out with a 750 of MMCS when I saw that they had a glass case for "the good stuff". They had 1 bottle of Stagg, Jr. for $49.99, which I grabbed, and several bottles of RHF, so I grabbed one of those as well. I did overpay a bit for the RHF at $65, but seeing as it was the first time I've seen it on a shelf, I was ok with it to be able to have a bottle. The last place we hit had a pretty good selection, and I almost grabbed a bottle of Blade and Bow for $48, but then I saw the 2 ETL's on the shelf for $35 each, so I grabbed them both. What did break my heart though, was having spent as much money as we had during the weekend on other stuff and now on these bottles, I had to pass on a bottle of 4RSmB LE '15 for $110. Yeah....I know. I should've found a way. Still kinda stings that I didn't just do it.

What sort of stores are you going to that have these lying around? This particular store was Johnnie Ganems in Savannah. They actually have a really good selection. taddraughn
I had to pass on a bottle of 4RSmB LE '15 for $110. Yeah....I know. I should've found a way. Still kinda stings that I didn't just do it.Even though I picked mine up at $80, I still would have jumped on it at $110 I think. Secondary value is pretty high, so they make for pretty good trades if you didn't want to keep it.EDIT: Also, that SAOS rye is a good find, I've been looking for some but haven't found any. Since it's discontinued, I guess these will become increasingly hard to find. Edited November 30, 2015 by taddraughn
