the SFTB is worth it I think. It is like a BTAC...

They had BTAC as well, priced as you'd expect. I have a goodly amount left from before the insanity got running in full force, so I just decided to pass and put my money on the Glenfarclas while I was in the UK. The BTAC and PVW are indeed quite good, but for the prices people are demanding now, it's simply not worth it. If I have to drink 4R Single Barrel only I will still be happy!

I was traveling this weekend so I had to stop at several places.

Great prices but I didn't need any (took a lot of willpower):

OGD114 for $20

ER10 for $25

RRSmB for $23 or $24 (can't remember)

Booker's for $43 (and it was C07-B-7, a great roundtable batch)

Also passed on some Baby Saz for $30 but was surprised they had ~8 bottles. Saw the usual higher dollar stuff like Rhetoric 21, Blade & Bow 22, and Blood Oath.

Was this in Indiana, which we are led to believe is the home of the absurdly low shelf price?

All of those would have been exceedingly hard to pass at those prices, even though I am bunkered on three already and not a huge fan of the fourth.

Actually in Wisconsin at Woodman's (a grocery store chain). I need to go to Indiana some time though, as it sounds like the land of milk and honey when it comes to bourbon prices.

Jason

gotta love woodman's and their super cheap prices on bourbon and pretty much everything else.

As I was looking at stargazer's price list I thought, wow, that looks like stuff I passed on at Woodman's last week.

Depends on the part of Indiana. The Indianapolis area is reasonable, but you have to shop around to find deals.

In spite of the hefty markup, I probably would have done it too. I hope you enjoy it!

I passed up some Woodford Reserve 1838 White Corn and Whistle Pig 12yr. They were both pretty tempting, as I haven't ever seen either before, but at $100/bottle for each I wasn't in the mood to gamble.

Walked into my local store and they had Old Rip Van Winkle 10 year, and the Van Winkle Special Reserve Lot B 12 yr - they wanted $300 and $400 respectively. I passed (with tears in my eyes).

That makes me mad, but I guess that's capitalism, right? Those are $70 and $120 bottles, respectively, if I remember, right?

I thought they were more around $49 and $59. Although, the 300-400 prices were better then what I saw yesterday.....

Old Rip 10 year - $499

Van Winkle Lot B 12 - $1499

Yes, you read that right, $$- one thousand four hundred ninety nine -$$

I wasn't looking for anything in particular, but passed on WT MK, at least 7 of the 4R barrel proof recipes (maybe more, but I didn't want to go through all of them:grin:), store pick Hancock's Reserve, SOAS 7, 9 (store pick) and 10 yr, as well as the other usual suspects.

Several of the FR private selection offerings. One of the offerings was not selected by the store, but says: "Specially Selected by The Lost Barrels". Anybody know what that means? It's OESO, 10 years and 10 months, and 112 proof.

Passed on several bourbons and whiskys from Balcones, including their recent release Brimstone. I just can't buy their products anymore after they forced out the company's visionary founder and master distiller Chip Tate.

The Good News: I found a liquor store sort of near me that has many of the limited releases on the shelf.

The Bad News: GOUGE CITY, worse than I have ever seen.

2015 OFBB $269

2015 WLW $999

EC18 $299

PHC9 $129

WT Master's Keep $189 (they have a lot)

And the one that pisses me off most of all, the very same ETL that I bought a couple of at $39.99 two months ago (and they have a lot of bottles) has been marked up to $139.99 now.

I politely told the guy that it was nice to see the selection, but the prices were outrageous even by secondary market standards. He said the owner sets the prices and the owner does not care if the bottles ever sell -- he likes to have them in the store. He also confirmed that they had to buy massive amounts of undesirable liquor to get the limited bottles (Fireball, flavored vodka, etc.). He said the deal with the distributor was very explicit "If you want a bottle of this limited edition, you have to buy at least four cases of that."

Pretty depressing. Glad my bunker is full. Just about giving up on the limited stuff. Same dollars spent on dusty bourbon, in my opinion, are much better spent.
