Passed on MMCS ($52.99), Blanton's ($49.99), Booker's Center Cut ($45.99) and RHF ($64.99). I might end up going back for the Blanton's and Booker's. I am saving my money for a few road trips and the upcoming holiday sale season.

Mbroo, I bet you were shopping at a big grocery store. I was in Bloomington and passed up several of the HH bonds @ $9.99 on sale. That took willpower, plus I have several bunkered. I also had recently stocked up on OF Sig. I can hold back a bit and wait for interesting stuff and more good sales. I went home with Goose Oktoberfest instead.

Are you referring to FR SmB LE? I paid $80.

Wow, that's a great price. Always in that range by you? I was going based off of some reviews I had seen on last years bottling and also bottle blue book.

Yeah, control state pricing but all the LEs disappear instantly.

Ah, IC. Unfortunately, being in NY, rarely see any of the FR LE's and they are priced high.

I found a 4R SmB LE on the shelf for $69.99 last year. I was shocked.

I think all of us would be shocked to find that price now, or last year either, for this limited release brand. Last year's was very good; but not as fabulous as this year's to my taste buddies; but I'd certainly scoop it up at that price!

Got mine this yr, for that price, I was grateful.....went to the register cause he was holding it for me, and it didn't ring up so she called him over and he said ring it up at that price 'cause that's what it was last year..Thank you very much! Great stuff!

I have never tasted any VW products and at this rate I never will. And I am OK with that. I can drink OWA and W12 and call it close enough. And while I want to try S-W distillate someday, I am not going to pay $85 for a dram of PVW23 that may or may not be all S-W and, even if it is, may not be a good expression of the breed in any event.

Again, found a local restaurant that had VW products for sale and, again, passed since the prices for the ones I care about are just beyond my tolerance for a single dram of anything.

Not to change your mind, but those are quite reasonable prices for a 2oz pour. Use the ER10 or baby Saz for comparison at $10 when the entire bottle is $25-30. That's three pours to pay for the bottle. Now look at the PVW23 at $85. Three pours is $255 which again is about MSRP for the bottle. The math mostly works out for the other VWs, though it gets a bit high on the younger bottles.

just sayin'. Gotta keep things in perspective. No one complains about a $10 pour of ER10. :)

This is actually an interesting mode of analysis. I think you have a point. I still choke on the prices, but the way you explain it I can see the logic.

To be fair, I *do* complain about a $10 pour of ER10.

i would too considering a bottle is $30 and most pours by me are literally 1 oz

Ummmmm.......ALL pours are offered at a premium at bars. This is not news.

It's not news, but it is something to complain about.

I guess my point is that nobody I know goes to a bar to get a bargain or a good deal on a pour of whiskey. Most people are not like us with big collections (bunkers) full of whiskey. Guys like you and me don't go to a bar to try something new (usually). We've pretty much tried everything that most bars have and know what we like and know what it costs. We go to bars for social reasons or to revisit something to decide if we want to purchase another bottle of it. Or, to have a taste of that limited bottle we can't find at retail - a special occasion type of thing. I don't complain I guess. Not say I like it, but that's why I do most of my drinking at home.

Well, I certainly wouldn't complain to the bar about it. They're just doing what bars do.

Indianapolis isn't too bad about it, though. There are still a lot of bars and restaurants here that will pour a decent mid-shelfer for $5 or $6.

Hey, it is what it is. Sure, I can buy a bottle and drink it at home with friends cheaper. But at home I don't have to pay server, staff, matching funds, space rent or other overhead.

Come to think of it, with what the home server costs me otherwise it might be cheaper to drink at the bar.
