Picked up a Flaming Heart 15th this weekend.  Thanks to BigRich for a sample (even though I bought it before I tried it - but no regrets!!)

Went to a local dive store to take a pic of a 1933 tamper proof aluminum cap for the thread on that topic in Collectibles and walked out with a dusty G&M Strathlisa 30 year with an equally dusty price tag & 10% off to boot.  The box was faded so it probably had its fair share of diffuse sunlight, but that's OK because it was a pretty good price.

Yamakazi sherry cask 2016.

Well, that looks nice. Not the 2013 of course. :D

Lots more sherry influence. Indeed, 3 more years since this is essentially the same whisky only older so probably even better! At $300 or more I would probably pass (or maybe not... B)) but certainly tempting.

it was at retail at my usual local store which was less than 300 with tax (best prices in town) - also applied a gift card I got for Christmas which made it even a better purchase.  Also picked up a Longrow Red 11 Port Cask at a Binny's which was on sale for $20 off

I've noticed that you always respect the Irish this time of year. You inspire me to pull out my Jameson's 18 and Tullamore Dew Phoenix. Oh,....and the Redbreast 12yr CS.

Well, that would certainly make it even more tempting to buy!

It wasn't a hard decision - and it will be consumed by me.  Go to MOM and look at the comments section for the Yamakazi 2016 Sherry Cask.  MOM decided to auction off their allocation and the flippers have literally lost their minds.  It's hilarious to see the reaction when flippers are prevented from turning their profit.  I know some retailers price in-line with the secondary market, but there's usually not a message board attached to the high-end glass case.

The Wine Enthusiast recently rated  the Aberlour 12 a whopping 97 points!  I have had it in the past so I think they are FOS.  Anyway, it was a good excuse to buy it again.  Once I empty a few other bottles I will try the standard 12 double cask with the 12 non chill filtered.  :)

Aberlour 12 is a solid single malt Scotch whisky, good value for money, and no one would go wrong having it in their liquor cabinet. HOWEVER, anyone that scores it 97/100 points can't possibly have tasted more than a handful of single malt whiskies.

I agree!   I now subtract 10 to 15 points from all of her reviews.   I am still amused that they publish reviews that are two or three sentences in total. They are very generous towards the private label / NDP products at TW & M.

Can't really expect that much from a magazine called "Wine Enthusiast" can you? They are probably big fans of "Rollins Creek" bourbon too... <_<

Cragganmore 29 and Dalwhinnie 29 - both Diageo LE's from around 2003.  I've been eyeing these for years and decided to pull the trigger in order to scratch an insatiable buying itch I've been having for a few weeks now.

Picked up a Bushmills Black Bush for $20 (clearance).  Never tried it, the price was right, and St. Patrick's day is coming.

That is an extremely drinkable Irish, G.  I recently picked up a bottle myself for St. Patty's, and I'm hoping it makes it! :lol::lol:

Irish whiskies are soft and easy sippers in general, and the Sherry finishing on this makes the Black Bush makes this even more so, IMO.

Thanks for the insight Joe, my only experience with Irish whiskey is drinking too much Jameson on previous St. Pattys days.
