VOB BIB tonight just to make sure that the bottle is ok to drink.  Bought it last week; could have spoiled, you know.

Started the night off with some FR Platinum and followed that up with some EC12. Both very good pours and the taste buds are very happy.

Your reports are why I still have faith. I'm working on my 14-01 again tonight as I'm close to finishing it. Luckily, it's a 375. I have three more 375's but they're buried too deep in the cabinet for a quick look at the batch numbers.

Feels like 5 days of work were crammed into the first three this week, so kicking off Wednesday with a nice pour of ECBP.  Yep - that's doing the trick nicely!

Me too Gary. I opened an old reliable today after work, and I'm having a couple of pours. HH 6 yr BIB. I agree. It does the trick nicely.

Trying to finish off a 1..75 bottle of Willett Pot Still.    Picked it up cheap in Charleston SC last year.    Not my favorite but drinkable.

I have had batch 14-02 and now 15-03.  Both have been great.  Although, I did prefer batch 14-02 over 15-03.

Hitting a mid-week pour of FR OBSQ in cold and snowy Indiana. :)

You could do a lot worse!  :lol:

I came across a sleeper 4RSB PS last year that turned out to be a honey barrel.  For some reason this PS was overlooked locally and it lingered around all spring and through the summer.  The price even dropped on it!  I was late to the party myself, but once I figured it out, I did what any good cult member would do and bunkered up! 

By late summer/early fall, I'd gone through a couple (or three:rolleyes:) and just couldn't resist opening another one.  Soon after, I started feeling guilty for not paying attention to my other bottles, so I decided to put this bottle away for a while (behind a bunch of other opens).  You know, out of sight................................

So, I've drank a little bit of everything to include quite a bit of the 4R standard SB, SmB and other PS barrel proofers since then, but had never gone back to my open 'honey' bottle.

I figure you already can guess what I stumbled back onto tonight!  :o

Needless to say, it's on like...:D

I'm into some 4RSB here myself after a particularly trying day at work. OESK will be following. BTW, I picked up a MMCS batch 15-02 tonight. Hopefully it's on par with your 15-03.

I'm enjoying a hefty pour of OGDBIB after a loooooooooong day of work. I'll be damned if the Grand Dad isn't helping turn my frown upside down.  I have been watching my budget a bit more lately and turning to bonded bourbons and WT101 and the equiv higher proof low to mid shelfers. To be honest I am not missing the $50+ bourbons much

OGD will make you forget a lot of things!  ;)  I'm back on the Barrel (not bourbon) Whiskey tonight, and just too darn lazy to move over to the other thread to post there.

Knob Creek Single Barrel store pick from Pogo's in Dallas. Picked it up last year and been holding it. It was good...not great. I was hoping it would be better.

It's a cultic kind of evening. 4RSB to kick it off. If I'm starting the night with the clean up hitter, you know some good stuff is on the docket. Followed with some OESK (with a splash of 4RYL to downproof, but not without a sip of OESK neat first). Beautiful stuff. Finishing with some OBSQ (nod to Paddy for the inspiration since this is a favorite of his), also with a splash of 4RYL to downproof, though not before a sip neat. Surprisingly getting some oak on the palate with this one for the first time. The palate is a fickle thing.

Finished the last 3.5 oz of a Booker's 2014-07 tonight. I think there's Stagg Jr. #3 that's going to take its place.

Never did get around to opening that Bakers for the BOTM...

I'm cycling through four bottles, usually one neat shot per night, of :

(1) Eagle Rare 10-year ,  very smooth

(2) Angel's Envy bourbon ,  this bottle is "meh"

(3) Woodinville Whiskey Micro Barreled Bourbon ,  one of the last bottles since they now sell the 5-year version, a very nice drink

(4) Four Roses Small Barrel ,  a satisfying slow sipper

Next to join the rotation will probably be Makers Mark 46, sitting in the wings.

FRY is a excellent for down proofing as well as VOB86. I use the VOB with OGD114, I call it Very Old Dad. :lol:

Are other people doing this? I thought it was just me. (Granted, I may be reading posts on this thread too quickly and missing it, or, reading late a night when I'm too sleepy.)

I've only started this recently with 4R, but I've been downproofing Stagg Jr. with either Old Charter 8 or standard BT for a couple years now and that works really well so I figured it would work with 4R also. Now, the difference is that with the BT products, I'm working with the same mashbill among the constituent parts. With 4R, the YL is all 10 recipes being mixed into a PS that is only 1 of the 10 so I taste it neat first to get a baseline before adding the YL to make sure the addition doesn't take anything away from the baseline flavor that I like. So far, it hasn't.

Ran into this as I look through my bunker, an older Baker 107 so openned it.

 

For the newer ones, I think I had tried it once and didn't really like it but it's been years. 

 

Open this this one and as other found, I'm pleasantly surprised. Big creamy bold mouthfeel. Light nose but med-long finish. Slight hint of tannin or bitterness after taste but very mild. 

 

Like it much more than I expected. First pour only; only commented it because I was quite surprised.
