Kepler
Passed on an endless bunch of overpriced NDP startup brands the liquor store was pushing. Sick of the games they are playing to divert me away from legit Kentucky distillers.

What a waste of money.1 I know i've seen some very bad reviews about it. Instead, i bought two OGD 114 and a Four Roses 2014 SmB LE. No regrets. Spade
Passed on a 1792 port finished today. I almost grabbed it, but hesitated since 1792 can be too sweet for me on its own sometimes.
vismatt
Passed on a Blood Oath Pact 2 for $84.99 and picked up a John Bowman Small Batch for $27.99 and EHT Small Batch for $34.99. I don't know why, but I am always drawn to limited release bottles (I guess the marketing works), but passed on this one.
Radsman13
Passed on Blood Oath as well but at $150 a bottle. not so good reviews on Pact 1 and better bourbons in this price point made it easy

I have been wanting to try angels envy, but don't want to pay 52.99 for it. Maybe this is a more cost effective way to try the port finish. garbanzobean
OWA @ $37.99, THH @ $400, F R SmBLE 2015 @ $250, and many other comically priced whiskies. Heck, FRSB is up to $40+ around here, these days. Edited May 20, 2016 by garbanzobean

Fortunately I got those instead of a whole bottle (despite the warnings here) and didn't end up buying any more. OTOH, the Angel's Envy Rye is among my favorite cask-finished ryes out there. Mini-bottles are always a good idea when trying something new, but not sure "warnings" is the right descriptor for AE discussions here...Like any whiskey, it simply has fans and not... Funny, I have the opposite opinion and prefer Angel's Envy over 1792 Port. I've had them both too, albeit about a year apart so my comparison is by memory only, which is not the most reliable way to do a comparison test. To dboland, in my area AE sells for $42 and therefore is only about $10 more expensive than the 1792 Port, and to me, it's well worth it. But $52 for AE is not a great price. On the other hand, if you consider all the mediocre NDP products out there being pedaled in the $50 price range, then $52 for AE is not a bad value. Bottom line for me is that I found AE and 1792P to have different taste profiles, and I was a little disappointed to find out that 1792P wasn't simply a "poor man's Angel's Envy" like I hoped it would be. To my taste buds at least, the port finish is much more prominent than I found it to be with AE. I found AE to still taste like a bourbon whereas 1792P almost tastes like a different kind of whiskey. jeffrey r
For something a little different, here is something I did not just pass up: CEHTSmB. Why? Because I came across several cases of it last week at a NJ chain that gets it in a few times a year, and prices it at $33.99 per bottle. They had a lot of it, and I bought a couple more bottles when I came across it last week. I stopped in the same store later in the week on a different mission, and the EHTSmB was all gone. Every last bottle. The boom is still in effect, at least for the "names".

Depending on how many they had, I might have exceeded that number in this case. It typically runs between $40 -$50 in Indy. I love BT mash bill #1...with preference for Stagg>CEHT>ER>BT. OC10 was a favorite but it is no more. I passed on a store selection of WTKS. It was only $39.99. It was from Warehouse N which I seem to recall is on of the better warehouses. elmossle
Man it has been a while since I made a post in this thread. I passed on some KC2001 today. I stood there and looked at them for a while and debated back and forth if I should pull the trigger or not. While I have had only one bottle of KCSB and really enjoyed it, I just couldn't justify the price with a bunch of other selections getting set to hit shelves in the next few weeks. I'm sure I will taste it at some point and kick myself for not doing it, but we all have to have some restraint right??!!

MOwhisky4me
Was forced to pass up a bottle of Pikesville Rye today because choices had to be made... My favorite local shop had gotten in some stock that I haven't seen around these parts yet and I had to make a decision on what to pick up and what to leave behind. I knew I was taking home one of the two bottles of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof that were sitting on the case by the check out counter, so my choice of an accompanying bottle was between the Pikesville Rye and a bottle of Smooth Ambler Old Scout Ten. After much deliberation and gnashing of teethe I decided on the SAOSTen to go along with the ECBP and paid my $100+ and headed home pleased and content. Well, kind of content... Might have to go back in a couple days and check on that bottle of Pikesville to see if it still needs someone to adopt it.
