What bourbon are you enjoying? Summer 2016

So if the 1792 Full Proof is the standard offering (small batch flagship) at higher proof, and if this is a GBS single barrel private selection, can we refer to this as the GBSPS1792SiBSmBFP?  Ya know, to make things easier...

WR Double Oak tonight.  If you like a cigar with your bourbon this one is excellent with a Nicaraguan.  The sweet candied oaky notes of the bourbon is a perfect foil the the spiciness of the cigar.

I presume this is just the standard Larceny right? It has always had 1870 noted prominently on the label I suppose to correspond with one or more of the Fitzgerald "legends".

 

For a moment there I thought maybe Heaven Hill and Brown-Forman had crawled back in bed together and blended Larceny with the Old Forester 1870! Not such a bad thing if they did really given the success of Rittenhouse...

LOVING this Four Roses OBSQ that I picked up today.  Interesting since one of the things that sometimes bothers me about 4R is that it's too flowery but even with the Q yeast this is great.  Something about the high rye mash and the little extra aging (11+ years) has come together perfectly for me.  Too bad the price has been creeping up on these and this one set me back 70.  I still might have to go back and pick up another.

A hump day treat of HHSS #2. Dang this is good whiskey! I opened this bottle the day I got and probably have 2 pours left. When did we get this bottling fellas? I have lost track.

Most folks got theirs at KBF 2014 (not sure when Binnys made first deliveries to some of the fine folks who were local).

Believe it or not my first go on this one.  Verdict is still out.  Makes no pretense of being smooth and I knew I was drinking something.  Flavors were good though.

Having a very good pour of Hancock's PR bourbon tonight. This is a 2016 bottle and is pretty damn good. Sometimes it's hit and miss with these single barrels.

A little late, but I opened up a bottle of Old Fitzgerald BiB.  It's got to be my favorite at that price point.

Did a kinda 'Distillery Brands Flight' of WT products this afternoon/evening.    Started with Rare Breed...Very Nice.    Slid over to a barrel pick (GBS) of Russel's Reserve SB, SB which was a bit more complex, and deeper; very, very nice stuff.    Finished with a nice pour of Kentucky Spirit, which seemed a bit under powered, but very nicely balanced nonetheless.   All in all a very enjoyable afternoon/evening of tastings.    Hats off to Jimmie and Eddie!

Continuing the WT101 theme of the week as its what I brought on the first leg of a multi leg SC work trip. Enjoyable evening pour this 101, consistently hits the spot. Good thing I packed as the SC liquor stores close at 7pm !!!! WTF???? I guess I should have checked pre trip but why would I, it's 2016 for cryin out loud. I will never get over my roots, open all hours except a 4 hr block from 2 am to 6am 7 days a week, still silly but much more manageable. Rant over ????

I've been working on a Blanton's for the past couple weeks. I went through a long stretch where this just didn't agree with my palate. Then suddenly it did. Because of that, I'm making hay as the saying goes. I think I'll see if the good vibes extend to all the BT#2 mashes and pile on with some Hancock's and ETL.

You are much better at rationing than I am!  I think I plowed through my two bottles in less than a year.

Last night I had my what-is-becoming-normal mid-week pour of RHF while watching Suits.  Then I tested a little bit of my "Makers Medley" that I vatted a week or so ago: equal parts MM, MM46, and MMCS.  I like the normal MM, so add some oakiness from the 46 and extra vanilla and oomph from the CS, hyperdecant in a blender, let sit, and the resulting 98 proofer is quite nice upon initial tasting.
