A basket full of HWRR for 47 bucks.

What's HWRR.  Sorry, some of these abbreviations can be pretty cryptic.

Anything that begins with HW is High West. After that, you can infer fairly easily by the initials.

I came across a stash of EWSB 2004 this morning, which immediately caught my attention. Unfortunately it was priced at $31.99 (plus MN tax) and I ultimately passed. Would've bought multiples if it was priced like I find EWSB at other places locally: $20-25.

If any MN SBers want a heads up on where these are let me know

Passed on an Abraham Bowman pioneer spirit batch 14 at $69 because I couldn't find any info on it. The original distillate coming from BT intrigues me but I just couldn't pull the trigger. Any advice?

Passed on Hudson Baby Bourbon even though the price was better than I've seen it elsewhere at $21.99... Just not sure it's something I'd enjoy.

Those are in 375ml bottles though right?

Yes indeed it was High West rendezvous rye. Sorry for the late response as I have been traveling extensively. I was very surprised to see it in the close out basket as its a fine pour, well known, well regarded, well priced. I would have snatched one up if not for an unexpected bourbon issue taking my full attention at the moment. Anyone passing through the Columbia SC area can find the HW at the Greens on 26? Not the downtown one. IMHO that basket should empty pretty quickly.

About $70 for a 750ml of Abe Bowman is typical.  I think the Batch 14 is the Wheated bourbon.  The Abe Bowmans are A. Smith Bowman's LEs.

While ASB is owned by BT which, in turn, is owned by Sazerac, the ASB whiskey products (Virginia Gentleman is an 80 proof bourbon, the Bowman Bros. is a 90 proof bourbon, and the John J. Bowman is a single barrel 100 proofer) are distilled at BT (rumor says twice) then trucked to ASB in Fredericksburg, VA, where they are distilled a third time then barreled and aged in F'burg.  A recent thread lists the LEs (do a search for Bowman), and the ASB website has great pictures. http://www.asmithbowman.com/home.aspx

The Master Distiller, Brian Prewitt, is responsible for the current LEs.

Passed on a lot of things but most notable were:

KY Owl for $400 - not that I would purchase anyway but was curious

ECBP varying in price from $75 to $130

FRSB at the gift shop but didn't ask the price - heard it was $70+ and it was the lowest proof I've ever seen at just below 102

Passed some W12 for $129 and ECBP for somewhere around there.  Snickered when 4 miles away HH was offering ECBP for $75 (which based on market trends is pretty reasonable, although I still passed).  Came very close to pulling the trigger on a HHSS, whose price has come down to $150 (8yr wheater, 21 months in cognac cask).  Got to sample that at a tasting, and it was delicious.

Passed on Toms Foolery for $79.99, and JB Double Oak for $20.99.  I'll probably pick up the double oak at some point.

Had an opportunity to buy a 1915 Old Crow BIB at the Getz Museum Master Distiller's Auction during the KBF, but valued my marriage more than the bottle.

It went for $1700

Found 3 bottles of FC 6year in an out of the way place. I have been passing for a while, but I'm not sure for how much longer.

Passed on ECBP for $75. I remember being annoyed when I first got charged $60 about a year ago because I was still getting them under $50 elsewhere. It might still be worth $75 in today's but I've got some already and plenty of barrel proofers in general

Thanks Harry. Yeah...I got most of the technical info off the internet, I was looking more for tasting info to see if anyone on here had tried it yet. I went with a store selected RR instead for $5 less.

I passed on an ECBP for $129 over the weekend. This is the first time I have seen it on the shelf in Florida, or anywhere else for that matter.  I probably would have bought it at $75 because it's been so allusive but just couldn't justify $129 price even with my wife telling me to get it.

It's hard for me to justify anything over 60 for ECBP when Bookers is still 40 in my area. Different profile and age, sure, but not that much.

A store had a lot of the Beam products on sale:

Booker's (the crappie/bluegill one):  $42

Baker's:  $36

Knob Creek SB store selection:  $35

Knob Creek:  $25

Basil Hayden's:  $33

If I didn't have a collection of Booker's already and several KCSB store picks in the bunker, I would have pounced.

Passed on the Willett 3 yr rye for $43...I have a bottle opened of the 2 yr and one in the bunker.  I think Willett is on the right track and was surprised I enjoyed it as much as I did for being only 2 years old.  Anyone who has had both, how much of an improvement is that extra year?

I think it's noticeable going from the 2 to 3. I still see the 2 around and would never buy it again as long as the 3 is available at a fairly similar price

You should be jumping on Baker's at that price.

Drove to Ann Arbor to check out a store my local guy told me about. I asked about a few, ETL, WLW 12, etc... got the old "Psssst... I've got some Orphan Barrel Rhetoric in the back..." "How much?" I ask. "$189.00", he says... I don't think I laughed out loud, but the look on my face must have offended him because that was the end of our conversation. I still bought a 4RSB and a Larceny to show my appreciation for his time.
