Would there be a benefit of blending batch #3 and batch #4? I've got both but only batch #3 is open, I've enjoyed it so far!

Coincidentally, stopped at the liquor store on my way home after posting on Friday, and it had some Batch 4 (now at $58, up eight bucks in eight months). Bought one and had to try it right away. Seemed excellent, but not outstanding, so I had to pull a Batch 3 (which I consider outstanding) from the bunker to do a side-by-side. To me, Batch 4 is slightly hotter (must be that .05% increase in ABV), yet slightly sweeter. I think Batch 4 has a nicer nose, nicer legs, and a richer, creamier mouth feel. Another explosion of flavors, but not as well balanced, since one taste (slightly licorice to me) seems to somewhat mask the others. So Batch 3, with its more complex, balanced taste and better finish (important characteristics to me) earns my nod. That said, I went back and bought two more Batch 4s. Gonna be fun finishing up the open bottles with more side-by-sides while anticipating repeating them in the future.

Thanks for the tasting notes Charlie. Very interesting. I just recently purchased yet another bottle from Batch #3 and my first bottle from Batch #4. It'll be a while before I open them and do a side by side, but I am very curious. FWIW, I'm sticking to my guns in regards as to how many bottles I have open at one time. I have to finish a few more before I open any more. Maybe Jazznut…….

I do plan on doing a batch #3 and batch #4 sbs, but like I said, I have to finish a few more bottles before I do so.

Finally got around to picking up batch # 3 this week but left a batch #2 on the shelf. Plan on cracking open #3 tomorrow along side a pour of '08 GTS.

After reading this thread I went to the local and he had 2 bottles on the shelf. I pulled the first one down to check the proof:132.1. They were $50 an I had a 12% off coupon (with tax about $47 each) so purchased both. Thanks guys!

around here, I always see it for $50. it's the only bottle that I've never actually seen being priced higher, even with other bottles at the same store being completely overpriced. kinda weird to me, but hey, I guess it's a good thing?

I've had bottles of batch #3 and batch #4 open for a short time now. I did a sbs when I first opened them. I thought I'd give it a little time before revisiting them. After trying them both again, here's what I think. Batch #3 still comes out a little bit ahead of batch #4 IMHO. Batch #3 seems just slightly more "rounded" and sweeter than batch #4. Batch #4 has a bit more of a hotter edge to it, but also maybe some more interesting flavor characteristics to it. Not much of a difference mind you. This differs slightly from Chuckles notes. Still, all in all, both are great, and worth giving a shot. Like others have pretty much stated, batch #1 appeared to be a bit disappointing. I was on the fence about grabbing any more after buying a bottle of #1. I'm sure glad I decided to take a chance, and buy a bottle of #3. Just goes to prove, you just never can tell. :crazy:

Thanks for the notes, Joe. Been meaning to ask, what proof have you guys have been lowering this down to? I've found that my sweet spot has been between 110-115. Hard to beat batch #3!

I've tried the first three batches (have not opened my batch 4 yet). After trying batch 1, I had no intention of buying it again. The batch 2 I tried was slightly better. Comments on SB led me to pick up batch 3 when I saw it, and it turned out to be head and shoulders above the first batch.

No real reason to purchase a batch #1. I have one batch #1, one batch #2, and two batch #4 in my bunker. I'll either gift my batch #1, or blend it with BT or EHT Small Batch. Batch #2 I'll keep around, as it is decent. Batch #4 is excellent, and worth having back-ups IMO.

I picked up another batch 4 today. I know that some have said that batch 3 is better, but I will respectfully disagree. This (132.2) is a very good barrel proof bourbon.

I just opened batch 3. I like it. I have a batch 4 that I may open up to do a SBS.

I've had batches 1,2,&3. The only one I did not like was 2.
