THIS - for the second night in a row.  I betcha Smokinjoe is enjoying the games.

I may have to switch to something stronger if the Nats bullpen doesn't show up soon.

So, it's back to OF 1897 for this evening.

How much bourbon does it take to get that stupid tomahawk medley out of your head?  I guess I'll find out tonight. :D

The Gentleman Jack tasted different. It had an odd nose - to me it smelled like a mixture of cotton candy and pecans.

I was wondering what the verdict on that was. The Jack and honey combo is a good one, IMHO.

Larceny isn't my favorite, but it never disappoints regardless how my palate is feeling. It's the perfect companion when grinding up steak trimmings to make burgers for grilling on the BGE.

Some VOB6BIB tonight after someone's post last night gave me a hankering for it. Using my Deathstar ice cube.

Finally got to open and enjoy my RY 10 Single Barrel.  Lots of caramel, a bit of spiciness in the middle (more than most wheated bourbons) and some smoky oak on the finish.  Really enjoyed it.  Followed that with a pour of my recently acquired  SAOS Single Barrel.  11 years old and 91 proof.

Well, it's Sunday night and here I am wondering that the hell happened to the weekend? It's nearly over. As I ponder this, I am sipping on some KCSB from True Spirits (Barrel 3214). Quite nice. I really like KCSB, especially the store picks.

Yeah I really like that blend!! I accidentally mixed some OWA and OGD114 the other day and while it was good it was not as good as the WSR blend.

Yeah, I'm sure that was just a bit too hot. I actually modified my blend to approximately 60% WSR and 40% OGD114 recently, and I think that's even better than the 50/50 blend I started with. I know others have used a 50/50 blend of OGDBIB and WSR, but I'm thinking my 60/40 blend may be the better way to go since you get the older OGD114 in the mix rather than two young bourbons with OGDBIB.

Enjoying the final pour of a Charter 101 private selection. It's not tasting quite as desserty as it did a few nights ago, but it is still excellent. I'm sad to see this bottle go but it's nice to have a little room on the shelf for something new

Don't think I've seen an OC101 in the wild and didn't think they did a private selection of OC.

"Grandpa Weller" blend (102pf) - I like that!  Gonna have to modify a small amount to 60:40 (99.6pf) to try, tho'. Mine is resting in an old Hibiki 17 23-facet bottle in the fridge for warm summer deck drinking in a Yeti.  No ice for me.   :D

The wife's college graduation was last night. I had 2 knob creeks at the restaurant then when we got home I had a Booker's dots batch and she had a mimosa.

it wasn't the heat.  I usually prefer higher proofs.  It just didn't blend as well.  The WSR does a really good job of getting rid of the "funk" while the OWA didn't.  The spicy finish of OWA and the overall spiciness of the OGD just didn't play as well together.  I'll have to try a 60:40 blend now. Another reason to drink more bourbon! :)

I think I said this somewhere previously, but I guess we could call it Grandpa Weller's Four Grain Blend, since that's basically what it is.

Nice bottle choice. I'm just using an old Weller bottle for mine...fancy screw cap and all. [emoji6]

Decided it was a Rye type of night. Tried the new Ezra Brooks Rye and can't stand it. It taste like it was in the barrel for 2 months not 2 years. Just terrible. Since I had to rid myself of that terrible taste in my mouth, I opened a bottle of Baby Saz. That and I was watching the Brockmire premiere where it is plastered all over the place.

Interesting, Ezra Brooks Rye just won a gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits competition.

Gold Medals are basically just above participation trophies at those events, the double golds are the real winners and even at that everyone's got different taste buds.

Speaking of double golds, Wild Turkey 101 won a double gold in 2016 and no medal at all in 2017, not even a bronze.

Continuing to kill bottles before the impending move.  Tonight's first pour is VSOF 12yr bought a few years back before the gouging went crazy and the price rose to $130 a the HHGS

Going with the Grandpa Weller's 4 Grain, 60% WSR-40% OGD114 after SBS tasting.  Conversion of 50-50 underway!  Will post pic of Hibiki decanter after mad chemist work finished.   Me likee muchly . . . . . . . .

[emoji106]I liked the 50/50 blend, but sometimes thought it was still a bit too spicy. I was concerned that adding more of the younger WSR wasn't going to change it favorably, but it actually worked perfectly to reduce a bit of the OGD114 spiciness and enhance the caramel corn sweetness.

Well yours truly Smokinicanjinxthebravesatwilljoe missed most of the first two, but settled in yesterday for the finale.  You know what happened...

Tonight while listening to Braves on radio through the intermittent showers, it's a pour from an old 7 yr paper label OWA.  What a handsome label.  Whiskey's not too bad either.  :D  Despite this, I never really felt there was any significant drop in my enjoyment of OWA through the age drop, label change, shortage, bottle change, etc.  This older one may have a bit more buttery brown sugar and touch more viscosity, but not so much that I pine for it.  I do miss the package, though.  The first change to the clear label and bulbous bottle was doable.  However, the new maroon dress is abysmal, IMO.

I named it "Special Grandad", but I agree that this one always hits the spot when I go for a pour. One of the great rewards of following SB.com!
