Started with some EHT Four Grain which was a surprise purchase due to my favorite liquor store surprising me with a bottle. Had a hard time wrapping my head around it but enjoyed it. Followed with some OWA which wasn't as good as usual. Bad palate night? Bad form following something with rye in it with a wheater? Don't know. Closing with the last pour from a bottle of Ritt, which really never did it for me.

The weekend is before me and I predict some special pours.

Neighbor Dan came over to drink bourbon--except this time he brought a bottle of WR DO instead of just sipping my stuff.  I tried to stay non-committal because you never look a gift bourbon in the mouth. Still, I'd rather have JB DO even if they were the same price. I got lots of wood, as you would expect, and then a huge dose of blandness.

Unfortunately my dad passed away on Tuesday night.  Finally got home last night from getting all the arrangements made with my brother & sister.  We decided to toast my dad's life so I poured my wife a glass of wine and myself some Blanton's and toasted one of the best men to ever walk the face of the earth.

Going to spend the night at my brothers tomorrow after the services so I'm planning on taking a couple of bottles so we can drink to his memory.

Late to the wake; but please accept my condolences on the passing of your father.    Tough to lose those close to us, I know.     Gathering with family and friends and remembering helps.

Picked this up yesterday on the recommendation of a friend and was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it.  I thought it was one of the best sub-$30 bourbons I have had in recent memory.

Guys, thanks for all the kind thoughts.  Next time you have a pour of your favorite stop for a second and toast the memory of those loved ones you've lost.  If you want to honor my father then pick up the phone or drive over to your mom and dad's house (if they're still with us) and tell them you love them.

Dad was 80 and he was most proud of his three kids, three grandchildren and 2 1/2 great grandchildren (my daughter is expecting our first grandchild in September).

Sorry to hear about the passing of your father. He lives on through you, your family, and all those that he encountered. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Blended ECSB 136 with 1792 FP @ 1:1.   Just goes to show that blending two solid pours does not necessarily result in something worthwhile.  Even with water, just a mess.

Enjoying is a strong word to be used.

This is young, thin and not great... needs more time in the barrel I think.

Having some Willett Pot Still tonight. I need to empty this bottle. It takes up SO much room in the cabinet. I've also got a 1.75 of it that is so huge that it doesn't fit in the cabinet.  Using my new jumbo rocks glass. Ha. Yes..I know it's an ice bucket. We found beer glasses, the ice bucket, shot glass, and some short stemmed cocktai/wine glasses today that match my favorite vintage rocks glasses.

Having a pour of EC12 for the first time in a couple months.  Wonderful, as always.

Is this from the latest bottled release (batch one, 5 years old I think) or from earlier samplings of it? I haven't opened my bottle of it yet.

I am back at work, seeking to empty this bottle of EW 1783 to make space in my bourbon cabinet.

It's always a quandary. Do you use lack of cabinet space to justify drinking more or do you get more cabinet space to justify drinking more?

Both! Empty space justifies buying more, though.

Having a first taste of Old Bardstown BIB. Really solid, although it's still in the corn-forward phase of its maturation

Having a pour of WT101 after not having it for several years.  This is much better than I last remember.  A creamy vanilla note stands out.

It's been a busy few months for me as my youngest has been wrapping up his senior year of high school.  He's now officially all graduated up, and in a quiet moment tonight, I enjoyed a pour of a PS 1792 SB.  It went down so well that I decided to follow it up with something a bit heavier.  I perused the opens, and ended up with about two fingers of Stagg Jr (@ 127 something proof... I think).

It got me to thinking.... It's really nice to see first hand the evolution of the Stagg Jr... from that hot as hell, thin and one dimensional opening act mess...

...to the delicious molasses, brown sugar scented, cinnamon laced- licorice candy delight it is today.

I really hope that they can keep it up.  :)

Doing a little OGD BIB SBS, there is a clear winner here in the black cap, more baking spices and easily the most complex, really a surprisingly good pour.  The new label would probably be next for me, it actually probably tastes the youngest but not really any off notes a solid four year old BIB. The Orange cap is a bit on the bitter side and still has a bit of youthful corniness.  All in all like them all but will probably try to remember where I got that black cap and see if there is any more hanging around.

I've been enjoying some Stagg Jr. recently - don't recall the batch, but it's a recent one. Agree with your assessment and hope!

Tonight, it was inadvertently a wheater night. Started with an OWA that was almost empty. It was hitting the spot about as good as ever. So I went in for a second pout and killed the bottle. Still magnificent.

So what to follow with? WLW of course. Didn't have one open so I peeled back the foil on a 2016 WLW. Wonderful.
